Back to the Nurgle Daemons today. It’s been awhile, I know, but these three have been a slow march, mostly because other stuff keeps taking their spot in the queue. Now, finally though – it’s their turn to shine! Or glisten.
I’ve actually had these Forge World resin models for years now, but like so much in my collection, they were bought because I wanted them to eventually paint up for [army] and then they just sat there. Since this year I’ve been doing the Nurgle Daemon thing, they finally got their time. I still have a bunch of other metal Nurgle mobs to paint up before I allow myself to start on the plastics, but I’m allowing resin models to be painted thoughout.
There’s not really a great deal to write about these things. They’re pretty nifty in the current edition of 40k, and I assume quite nasty in AoS as well, though I honestly haven’t looked up their stats there yet. I’d have had these posted up earlier, but we’ve had an entire day and a half of rainstorms and occasional thunderstorms here, along with quite cold weather – which has meant a rather unsuitable climate for spraying. As we move into midwinter, that will of course only get worse, so I foresee a more sporadic posting schedule to come – where it will only be every few days (or on the weekends) I can manage to spray new models, so we’ll have “dead air” here on the blog while I wait for a suitable day and completed models pile up, followed by a mass of photos once I’ve had a spray day that gives me a backlog of stuff to spray.
Depending on how that goes, I might end up doing some more “thought” pieces, like finishing that post about paints that sits half-finished in my drafts folder, or some painting tutorials (provided I can remember to take the photos. I still need to do one on iron/metal, and I’ve been thinking of documenting how I paint Isengard Uruk-Hai and their skin. Provided I start painting the bloody things!

They’re pretty nice models, all in all – at least in that messed-up Nurgle way. They’ve also got a pretty impressive stature to them, and are quite a bit bigger than I’d expected when I first ordered them, oh so many years ago.

Love these. I was eyeing off some on eBay last year but never bought them. When you say spraying do you mean airbrushing or just undercoat? I undercoat outside on the back porch where there’s some shelter. Rain hail or shine.

Spray can stuff – primer and some base coats, but what slows me down is being unable to spray varnish. I don’t have any shelter outside for spraying, and the cans all state not to spray under 15C, so even though I do still spray under that, I try not to under 11C or so – and even that window is getting shorter and shorter these days. Not like a couple of months ago when I’d be merrily spraying outside at 11pm before bed or even 7am before work.

And yeah, I’ve done some rather desperate doorway spraying recently. Not the best for my lungs, though!

I dont collect Nurgle but my friend Krakendoomcool does. Still i like to look at all the nurgle models simple because they are so immense, the plague toads are some of my favourite, with their oversised splitting mouths and saggy fat bodies. Very nice paint job and congratulations on finally finishing them and simply for ownership of thieae wicked minis.

Nice models. Probably need to focus in on one a little more to see the nice paints you got going on. Though I think we get the basic idea. The horns on the models are pretty nice and the tongue on the one. Looks to be a great addition to that bloating army. 😉
Looking forward to your tutorials when you get time. I have a few more Tool Tips articles in the back of my brain, but have been having too much fun (though that word can quickly invert to “chore” depending on the day) with painting lately.

Next time I photograph them (next Nurgle army update?) I’ll take a closer shot of one of them. Not like there’s any careful, finely detailed freehand on them, though. I need to get a ton of painting done this weekend if possible, since we’re at the end of June and I have barely touched the amount of figures I wanted to have done this month!

No worries. If you find the time. I just love to see well painted minis! Good luck getting caught up. I’ve got to get crackin as well. Heat has finally let up, to where I can use our spare room once again. Unfortunately I wasted a good chunk of time checking out the Steam sale. And I ended up nabbing Conan Exiles. But that has to get put on the backburner!

Yeah, I bought a bunch of Warhammer games on GoG a couple of weeks ago. And Deathwing Enhanced on PS4. Not had time to play any of them yet, of course!

It’s always great to see your figures but if your winter weather, equivalenf to our English summer i might add, means we get to hear more of what you have to say then I shall look forward to that.

Well, as we’ve come to expect, “nice” is definitely not the right word to describe them! “Impressive” is! I use the same protocol here as I do when Ann puts up a Nurgle-themed post I.e. wait a few hours after eating before reading the post! Food stays down that way! Definitely impressive!

Looking very suitably disgusting! I’ve got a trio of these sitting around myself. I’m planning on using them as Beasts of Nurgle, to add some more variety to the plastic ones. Still need to do some more work on one of the bases, and then get a day with low enough humidity to prime them.

I don’t have any of the plastic beasts (yet), though the actual toads are pretty nasty in both games. The “on rocks” part of basing them has been one of the hardest parts of the entire project.

I’m sure. They’re pretty solidly designed to be on a flat surface. Makes me glad my Nurgle stuff is all on marshy bases. The only one I need to do more work on is the one where I’m making the base into a giant lillypad.

Yeah, I started with the tiny mashed up shards of slate as a slightly different look on the plaguebearers, then decided when I got to the GUO and Mamon that models of their stature (and price) should really be standing on something more impressive, hence the rocks now for anything especially large or expensively Forge World…
Lily-pad in a swamp sounds cool, though. 🙂

Nicely done! Funny to remember you’re in winter! I always enjoy your work and your Nurgle collection is a fun one.
New England is basically wintry or just crap weather from Late October to mid April, so rattle cans are a pain. My painting, priming, and varnishing are so much more productive with a spray booth and an airbrush. I know we’ve had this conversation, and hell, you’re so damn productive anyways, so you don’t need it, but man, would you have more fun my friend!

Yeah, we just had the solstice, and we’re now heading into the coldest part of the season – though even when it warms and then heats up it’ll rain regularly for the rest of the year.
I’ve picked up three cheap airbrushes recently, though I haven’t even had time to open them. Still, the main focus I think is going to continue to be getting all this half-painted stuff done and out of the way, so I think I’ll be good for awhile.
