Back to Nurgle again today. Finally. A second trio of Plague Toads. Even though it’s been almost exactly two months since the first trio that I shared, I actually started on all of my Plague Toads at once, I just ended up splitting them off into their overall colours, and so the “brown” ones got finished first, and now, finally, I’ve finished the “green” trio.
These are some really nice models, really – but so very busy, especially when compared to the smooth lines of the new plastics. I’ve got a few more old-school metal Nurgle models still to assemble and get through before I go onto the plastics, though – as well as a bit more resin and a couple of extra surprises that I’m already working on.
As with the brown trio, I gave these green ones some broad stripes of darker green across their backs, the rear view being where they stand out the most. I felt that it gives the green a bit more depth and makes these unnatural, daemonic beasts look that little bit more “natural”.
I also ran some thinned purple and yellows through them in various places – again to vary their flesh tones that little bit.

Nice work. I’m not sure which I like better, green or brown. They both look really good. Though the green eyes really pop on the brown Nurgle, and just been in on the green ones. Maybe yellow eyes?

Nah, this shade pupil-less, slightly glowing, eyes is consistent across my Nurgle models. I already thought about that before doing the initial batch because I thought vertical slits would look good, but kept them consistent (and not red). Having said that, these ones did get an extra, thin yellow highlight to make them pop slightly more from their skin, but while they don’t stand out massively, it’s okay.

The look good! I like how the red mouths and sores contrast with the green.
How was your experience building them? Mine had some of the worst gaps I’ve ever seen.

There’s some severe issues with the feet being terribly uneven (that’s the Forge World Quality control we pay for behind the recent price increase!), which is one of the main reasons they’re all based on slate shards – allows me to vary the “ground” under their feet so they sit mroe or less evenly. Once I use thick Araldite to glue them down and fill those underfoot gaps, at least…
Still, being Nurgle, those flaws and messy connection gaps, and bits of greenstuff all fit in with the painted versions and look like a “proper” part of the model in the end…

Yeah, it was the feet that were the problem on mine, too. Honestly, I haven’t been particularly impressed by Forge World’s quality for quite some time now.

It’s variable at the best of times. I’ve been sent entirely wrong pieces sometimes. Luckily their service is generally pretty good. You’d want it to be for the price that we were paying, let alone what they want us to start paying…

I’ve had that happen, too. Ordered two sets of Mortis Autocannon Arms, got four right arms and no lefts. They did sort it out well, tho.

How big are they? The level of detail suggests they might be big enough to take on a space Marine. That makes me feel happy. So now I will have to find some for Godawful Monsters. Thanks for showing ’em off.

They’re on 60mm bases. They could eat a Space Marine in one bite. Big bastards.

I think they were designed with the idea that they could gobble up a space marine or human-sized opponent in one gulp!

Thanks Mark. At some stage (hopefully soon-ish) I’ll get all the current Nurgle models together for a group shot! It’ll be cool for me to see how all the toads mesh together.
