Funko Pop Fallout Sentry Bot

Not that I foresee this being a series with a huge number of entries, but I thought I’d throw that number in now, just in case. Anyway, a couple of months ago, I was playing a lot of Fallout 4 (this was before the cluterfucktrainwreck of 76 was released), and while browsing the internets, I saw this thing.

The thing I saw said that it was 6″ tall, and clearly it doesn’t suffer from the massive cartoon macrocephalia that is part and parcel of these collectable figures. True, it’s a little bit SD (super-deformed), but not to the extent that it looks completely wrong if you don’t know the model.

The thing is called a Sentry Bot, as noted, from the Fallout series of games. Here’s how they look in-game, and while you can clearly see that they’ve played with the proportions to make it fit in a little better with their Funko Pop series, it’s still pretty passable for 40k or other tabletop games. This collectable toy can be had for a pretty reasonable price for those of you in the US (I got mine from EBGames Australia for about AU$35).

My size comparison pics are a bit sub-par, I know (sorry I still haven’t built a Knight!), but as you can see it’s a decent size. The stock toy-paint is also decent. You could easily decide to overpaint, touch it up, or just leave it be. (I may touch mine up down the line). I could see this being proxied for a Knight-style “walker” in 40k, or simply used as a terrain piece – park it inside something like a Sacristian Forgeshrine for an objective-based Kill-Team game – even an Imperial internecine one (sabotage the Man of Iron Warbeast before the AdMech resurrect it!) And that’s just 40k. For someone playing a less “strict” sci-fi game of any type, it’ll fit in pretty nicely without looking as obviously iconic and potentially distracting as a Star Wars walker – though for me personally it fits the “DIY/incorporate anything” mentality of early Rogue Trader 40k perfectly.

Anyway, I’m sharing this on my blog today for the same reason that I picked this thing up a month or so ago. Enjoy!

  3. Oh wow, I didn’t even know these existed! Especially since it doesn’t seem like the most marketable design from the Fallout games. Still, a great discovery!

    I have to admit I would just love to see you touch this up and make it look suitably grimy and battered. The colour gradient on the armour is already pretty great, you’d just need tons of sponge weathering, far darker (and scratchier) metallic areas, and maybe the odd scuffed decal or two. Come on, looks like it might be fun! 😉

    On the subject of Miniature-Friendly toys: I was surprised to find out the plastic tank that came with my limited edition of Valkyria Chronicles 4 was scaled almost perfectly to fit into an Imperial Guard army…

    • Yeah, finding that it was a thing that exists was a happenstance, but when I saw it, I knew I should grab it. I might do it up, though it’s a matter of triage, and so it would probably have to wait until my half-painted stuff is all done as it already looks tabletop-worthy as is.
      (after googling) That’s a pretty sweet looking tank. Only problem is that there’s apparently only one left in my state, on the other side of the city, for AU$160. Oh, and one for $190 delivered.
      I’ve just been waiting for the digital version to hit under $30 on the PS store…

      • Yeah, the game is quite awesome and definitely worth getting. Don’t fret about the Limited Edition, though. The tank is surprisingly 40k-compatible, but all things considered, I’d say the set is slightly overpriced for what you’re actually getting, especially now that the Squad 7 DLC is freely available — you should definitely get the first game, however, in case you haven’t done so yet!

      • Yeah, the first game (on ps3) has been in my backlog for …10 years? That’s why I’ve been waiting for a deep sale.
        I’ve recently set up one of the PS3s at my desk, so it’ll be more comfortable to play the games on it, since most of my gaming last gen was on the 360. That queue looks like South Park/Infamous/Infamous 2, but maybe VC will work once I finish SP.
        All of that is after I finish Crysis 2 and 3 on X1 BC, though!

  6. It actually shares a number of design similarities with the Kastelan Robots that AdMech have. Might work well for one of the larger FW Automata, the Domitar or Thanatar.

      • It does also share some of those similarities with UR-025, who is a confirmed Man of Iron. I really wouldn’t be surprised if it’s eventually revealed that the Mechanicum Automata are derived from the Men of Iron.

      • I prefer it when everything isn’t explained explicitly, and they leave some of the mystery there (while still expanding the universe). I can’t see the DM any more interested in hanging out with the MoI than the AM, but I could see both of them coveting and elements of them using and modifying their technology for their own ends equally.

      • I wasn’t thinking so much that the DM would be more interested as that a bunch of the Tech-Priests who were messing with MoI stuff got purged during/after the Horus Heresy and were forced to flee to become part of the DM. Not all, by any means, but I feel like there’s probably more going on with MoI stuff in an “organization” that has no prohibitions than in one that has them as arguably their number one “Thou Shalt Not”.

      • Except Radical Inquisitors are already a well-established thing. 🙂
        I try not to think about filling in the gaps too much myself, though. I like the “anything you want to fit in, you can fit in” aspect of 40k.

  9. Man, that’s awesome. I had no idea this existed. I love fallout and all of its designs and I would love to see that on the table in s game of 40k. It’s just too cool and it’s proportions are great for the 28mm scale. My only dilemma would whether to leave it as it is or to add some Heraldry or GW bits to tie it in. It’s my favourite fallout robot… I love it!

  10. A good find, I am just getting back into Fallout 4, the kids have got me hunting down Deathclaws and the odd Mirelurk Queen. Oh and I remember the first one if those I met, when I had something like a pipe pistol. Luckily they can’t climb down cliffs.

      • I really was tempted with 76 but a fair few people were disappointed so I will give it a miss. I still have Far Harbour an Nuka World to get so I will get 5hem instead. Plus even after all this time I am still finding locations I have never been in.

      • I got it. We got 2 copies, actually – for co-op. I was going to give it a miss, but then I saw that Power Armour Edition helmet, which was what drew me in. The thing’s already on sale for $100 off! (and the game itself is much cheaper!)
        As good and expansive as F4 is, 76 is equally bad and a total clusterfuck!
