Today we the last of my May’s models – another completed boardgame faction. For the second time, I’ve completed a boxed expansion-faction from the The Others: 7 Sins board game. I’m a little more underwhelmed this time compared to when I completed the Gluttony faction. Of course, I completed the other parts of this faction a little while ago now – the Avatar back in March, followed by the Abominations in May.
The controller is a pretty ugly bastard. I wasn’;t sure of what to do with him at first, and so initially I gave him red skin and referred to him as “discount Hellboy”, due to the large right arm and hand.
I wasn’t happy with that, though – and the vest gave me my final direction. A Stone Cold Steve Austin fanboi! Austin 3:16 vest, Smoking Skull, OMR (One More Round), and SCSA gave the model as much personality as it was ever going to manage to have. Finally, some blood, to give him a Red Right Hand.
As with when I completed the “Gluttony” faction, I thought I might as well throw in a box shot for this faction here again, I still have no idea if I’ll ever play the actual game, but as with quite a few of the boardgames I’ve picked up, that wasn’t really a strong consideration when I purchased it as a set of “should be able to proxy these in the Warhams” models.

He’s not bad – certainly far from the worst in this range. I’m much less enthused about painting tentacle-pope from one of the next sets…

Nice work on the jacket, really gives him an extra something. I’m not familiar with the game but I take it there are other factions still to paint?

Well, there are seven of the Deadly Sins, and then there’s a biker gang, a multi-religious gang, Alpha Squad, Beta Squad, something something, various mutants and other bits and pieces. I honestly haven’t paid much attention to them at all since I got them until now, that it’s time to paint up some of them as Not-Warhammer-models.
The biggest “selling point” to get them painted for me is that each of these “Sins” is made up of only 8 models, so small enough to be achievable. I’ve finished the six abominations of the next set of them, so still have the large Avatar and the human-mutant controller to go. I can’t remember which sin they are, though – and once again, I’ve gone for a Chaos theme rather than something closer to the games’ lore (because the game was basically just an excuse to make models from Adrian Smith’s sketchbook)..

Great work! I’m also impressed by your diligence in painting boardgame minis – for me they’re in the absolute rear of the painting queue. Or is it more a case of having bought them for other uses?

I have to admit that almost all of the boardgame minis that make their way to the painting desk are because they represent “easy wins” – stuff that looks like I can paint them relatively quickly and easily. Extra points if they’re also models that will easily fit into an existing force – so the Gluttony models I also finished for this game mostly slot very nicely and easily into my Nurgle Daemon force for both 40k and AoS.

The others make it because they look fun/interesting random models to paint. That Manticore for example can be used in a few AoS armies (Chaos, notably), as well as my Mythological Greeks for KoW – but more importantly, it looked like it’d be fun to paint.

As others have said, the vest really makes it. I can see why you struggled to figure out what to do with him before landing on that idea, since he’s otherwise fairly generic.

Give Azazel a hell yeah! 🙂 Nice work on this guy and I love the freehand. Stone Cold would be proud. The skin tones also are really nice and have an unnatural tone to them which lends itself well to the squad and to the model.

Thanks mate. I wanted this sumbitch to look a little odd with the skin tones, and also was sick of the sight of him by the time I figured out the vest. It was the only enjoyable part of painting this model, in fact!

The GW Blood for the Blood God paint gets most of the credit there. It’s just a matter of not slopping too much of it on!
