A long. long time ago.. as the song goes.. I was at a place across town here, looking at a place that sold Dragon 1:6 scale figures. it must have been in the 1990’s. While I was there, I saw a 1:36 mortar emplacement set going cheap. Being who I am, I thought it could be turned into scenery, and so I picked it up to do so. Regular readers will know the story from that point, where I never got around to doing anything with it, then eventually started on it, you know the drill.
So a week or so ago, I finished it off. It’s maybe not the best I could have done, but given that it’s been doing nothing for the best part of two decades, having it finally completed isn’t exactly a bad thing…
I mean, it looked okay, as is. Except for the rise and indentation where the mortar’s baseplate stuck on. I had to both cut that piece off and then putty it over, to give a flat area where miniaturemans can stand.
So here we are. Nothing spectacular, certainly nothing Awesome, but another bit of terrain for the table, finished!
Great piece of scenery mate, very useful and another of your list

Cheers Dave – and that last bit of your comment sums it up well.

It’s completely transformed and really looks the part! I think a “well done” is due, not for getting it finished, but for not waiting a week and sneaking it into the Scenic September challenge! I’m betting the thought had crossed your mind! 😉

Haha thanks John, but I need these little wins to try and get enough models finished each month to hit my soft target of 1-for -each-day-of-each-month, every month. Struggling to get that done this month, and it’s not looking good.
Still, September should be pretty productive if it goes to plan!

I think this is an awesome piece of scatter terrain and it should be useful in WWI and WWII games as well as anything sci-fi or gritty as well. With that said, it doesn’t look like tons of fun to paint (a bit repetitive) so I’m sure it is nice to have it finished!

Yeah, it’s not the most excitng piece to work on – probably one big reason why it took so long to be honest, along with the soft detailing on the front-debris. Still, it took a ridiculously long time to get it done, and I’ll be trying to do a lot better when I buy new kits that are as simple.
…cue September’s challenges!

Is that weathering or two decades of dust? 😉

No, no. I removed all the dust to replace it with almost-identical looking weathering.
Really.

I can see how it caught your eye, and it did come out looking great! Also, it is always kind of amusing to see genuinely scaled real world weapons and get a reminder of just how ludicrously huge 40K weapons are.

Yeah, it’s funny how 1:35 scale stuff is somehow the right size (barrels), way too large (vehicles) and incredibly tiny (weapons) all at once. 😀

Yeah, it took awhile longer than planned, but at least these days I’m getting the stuff done. That’s what I try to tell myself, anyway… 😉
