Today’s model is one of my favourites from the original Necromunda range. Sculpted by Gary Morley, this model is a good example to show that the guy really can sculpt well, and it’s probably worth noting that there is a story behind the obscenity that it the original Nagash sculpt. Anyways, this bounty hunter naturally needed to make it into my 1990’s gang (as a ganger).
Once again, I’ve done some 2019 toning down of some of the more garish elements, and those that just didn’t look good to my modern eye. The end circle on the chainsword, along with the black and silver motor parts near the handgrip were red, the blue power cable for his (hotshot) lasgun was originally bright green, and the little parchment bounty tickets that are now white with “text” on them were previously red.
No changes to the back half of him, aside from the cable I’ve already mentioned. The purple tribal-esque tattoos were inspired by those worn by Avril in Grendel Tales: Homecoming.
I included this shot so that we can see behind the chainsword (as opposed to Behind the Music!) These pics came out a little soft/blurry, unfortunately, so I may redo them when/if I have time in the future.
Finally, this guy plus the other two Necro figures from my old Grendel gang actually give me a group of three – so they qualify for a Squaddie September success! Yay me!
Very nice! He is a great sculpt, and I reckon it would be possible to recreate him pretty closely using plastic parts (apart from the head, haven’t quite worked that out yet). Another project to add to the list!

Oh, I’ll look forward to seeing what you come up with there! Your plastic Necro-reimaginings are always great to see!

Great work as always, and like the tone changes you’ve done, the camo pattern on the trousers is great, especially as you can’t see a lot of it and it could be lost

Thanks Dave – he’s still well bright enough to fit the original version of the paint, but toned down a bit so he no longer requires sunglasses to look at and fits in alright with my current stuff. 🙂

Very nice indeed! There is a lot going on with this min, all fitting together well I think!

Thanks John, you’re right, it’s a busy model with so many little bits of detail covering it. I think that’s what bothered me about the original job – making it even more busy when it wasn’t needed….

Like it! Morley really gets an unfairly bad rap because of Nagash and some derpy elves. His work on the Bad Squiddo Dracula minis is top notch, for example!

I hadn’t seen those Vamps before your comment. He’s done some nice work for Avatars of War as well, some of which I have in the “paint them one day” pile(s).

What a great sculpt. Very nice mate

Thanks IRO – it’s a model that still stands up well today, I reckon!

In the grim darkness of the far future, Dave Mustaine has really changed up his hairdo!
Joking aside, that looks badass. Great work on the tats and camo!

Damn, good spot there, Alexis – there’s a definite facial resemblence there!

Trash-talking about Dave Mustaine’s hair is a pretty regular in-joke among my friend circle. We’ve all become pretty good at spotting opportunities for it XD

It’s actually more because we’re Metallica people. It really got started after watching Some Kind of Monster, which at points features Mustaine being an incredibly whiny jerk. He’s basically got his guitar skills and his hair, and as far as I can tell, those are his only good qualities 😉

He wouldn’t be the only musician where *that* statement is true…

This guy is a top-notch sculpt and I think your tattoos really give him a little extra oomph. Those three together make quite a fearsome looking squad as well. Excellent work and that squad will look amazing on any Necromunda board!

Thanks Kuribo! I’m going to have to get to that “reunion” pic of my old gang soon. Just a few more models to get finished first…

I’m looking forward to it! 🙂

Hoping to start getting back into proper painting again now. I’ve just finished a bunch of extra work days (and a bunch of house-stuff today), and now hopefully I can get some rest. And paint properly again.

Cracking job mate, good to see some redemption for Gary 😉

I’ve got some models that he sculpted for Avatars of War that I’d like to get to sooner rather than later (after the Neglected Legions are done, no doubt), but he’s done some fine work. Not all of a sculptor’s (or anyone else’s) work can be their best, after all!

Lovely work on that figure- one of my favourites from the old range. Shame I got rid of mine….
Cheers,
Pete.

Ouch! I guess there’s always eBay. Or seeing what Wudugast comes up with for a kitbash…

I haven’t seen this sculpt before (original Necromunda was before my time), but I think he holds up well even today. A really cool model! The only thing that’s a bit weird to me is the skulls on those bounty slips. They don’t look like wax, like on purity seals, so I’m wondering how are the skulls/slips attached..
Great paintjob as always. I’m loving the tattoos and the camo work, and I think blonde hair was the perfect choice.

Agreed – it’s a very good model, and a great sculpt. I guess I’d think of the skulls as something more like magnets or pins over traditional purity seals. Those would work!

Great work and this guy needs to appear on the Fly on the Wall post-apocalyptic saga – very IROesque! Especially the tattoo work!
