Something new finally for my neglected Flesh Tearers force! This Razorback was purchased second-hand from an internet-friend in Tasmania (Nerdfest), along with a bunch of other tanks and models. Many of the infantry have been reborn into Various Minotaurs that I’ve painted and shown here, while the vehicles have sat in a bit of a limbo, since I seem to be bad at getting that sort of thing completed.
Nerdy actually did the basic build as well as added all of the bones to the front, and had even basecoated the thing red and then done the subtle black fade on the lower portion. He’d also masked much of the lower portion with blu-tac which I then just needed to strategically rub off to show the silver base underneath and create the paint chipping. My contribution was adding the 3D-printed Flesh Tearers icons, painting the metal and black, the details and adding more paint chips where I felt he vehicle would have more wear (on the ramps where they touch the ground, around hatches, etc) and the weathering. And obviously I also needed to paint the bones.
The turret is made from pieces that clearly come from either two or three different resin kits. I’m not 100% sure if he’d intended for the shroud to go with the assault cannons on this, as they’re clearly from different kits and needed a little bit of filing and bodging to get together, bit they look alright once glued together. Both the turret and top plate of the Razorback are removable as well, so I could theoretically turn it into a Rhino APC or even A Predator Light tank (sans sponsons).
Still, I’ve had this thing sitting around for a few years now, and even though updates have been difficult to get up, having these challenges (which started simply as personal challenges) has still helped me on a personal level to get stuff done – it’s the only reason I managed to motivate myself to pull this thing out of the cabinet and complete it! I’m now working on trying to get another (much older) Rhino completed as well for a different force, and have started on another of my ex-Nerdfest vehicles to add to the Flesh Tearer’s motor pool!
Looking good mate, I really like that red 👍

Cheers John – I wanted to give it enough to fit in well with the troops on their similarly-toned bases. 🙂

The printed icon looks great. Nice work all round especially on the weathering. I really enjoy the weathering stage

Thanks, IRO. I’m going to have to get myself a 3D printer eventually, but I’m waiting for them to be a bit more user-friendly and even idiot proof! 😉 Glad you like the weathering as well!

What John said ! Really great rendition mate, all your additional weathering chipping makes a really atmospheric piece

Love it. Certainly loos the part with the rather swish bone details.

Thanks Pete – working on a second model in this series now and those bones are a bloody nightmare to paint up! :X

That’s great, the richness of the red and black looks superb and the weathering is really effective.

Thank you, Wudugast. I’ve got another being worked on for the next tray, so hopefully soon enough for Ann’s current challenge.

Nice job dude – a brutal support tank for a brutal chapter!

That’s outstanding, really love the skeletons around the front section and the weathering/dirt effects around the tracks especially!

Thanks mate – I can’t take credit for the bonework, though. Just the paint on top!

Yes, this is a very nice tank. Like some of the others said, I agree, the bonework is very nice. I also think they could do covert operations against Khornate forces because I think they’d probably blend in pretty well until some enterprising berzerker started flipping through his codex and mumbling, “We got razorbacks now?!”

Oh yeah, the only nitpick (and I say this as someone who saw a lot of tanks back in my Army days) is with the weathering you did around the bottom skirt, maybe a bit more weather on the treads too might be in order. They seem a little clean compared to the other weathering.
But great job. Like I said, I love that razorback/rhino/predator.

The desert sand weathering powder is a bit hard to see on the bright tracks, but noted. I’ll use some of that Vallejo mud you put me onto, but the plan is to wait until I’ve got all the vehicles done for this force and then do the final mudwork all at once for consistency.

Those Assault Marines were originally part of a concept for a bunch of minis to be a homebrew chapter that I could use as FT using BA rules or CSM using Berserker and CSM rules. I managed to not work on them for long enough that I lost/forgot all the finer details and just went with Flesh Tearers in the end. 🙂

Massive nostalgia hit! Fleshtearers were my second 40K Army, and I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for them. This looks far better than any of those ever did, tho!

Thanks Alexis – I had a few of them painted back in the RTB01 days, but not even a squad back then, just a few models each of about 20 different chapters. The current plan is for the FT to be a “proper” army, but first I need to get them to “small strikeforce” level.

Great job man. Do those minis fit inside? Does the flap open and close?

Thank you – the ramp does open and close, and I guess the models could fit in if they were less extravagantly posed with their arms waving around everywhere! 😉 I’ll have to paint some more marines – some tacticals with bolters that can actually use this thing properly!

Nice job painting the reds on this tank. Like others have said, the weathering really makes the paint job pop too! I like the bone panels and while I have no idea if that is something that GW officially released but it really drives home the Chaos nature of the vehicle. I painted a few tanks in my early hobby days (I had no idea how to paint well then) and I always found them difficult to stay motivated on. Getting this one done is a real accomplishment I would say and a job well done 🙂

Thanks Kuribo. I’ve gotten some new weathering products that I’ll try out on the next one in this series of vehicles that I’ve started chipping away at. If it comes up well, I’ll grab thius one back and add a little as well. I probably will have to either way for consistency!

I think you could probably weather this one a bit more if you wanted so that is a great plan. I’ve been learning about rust streaks and similar kinds of weathering and it really does take a tank or vehicle to the next level when you figure out how to do it. I’m still learning about it myself but I’d say its well worth it to apply it to this tank and any others you’ve got.

On this one it’ll just be a bit more in the mud-type weathering. I won’t be going full-realism vehicle style on this (or many of my SM vehicles) as they still need to fit in alongside with the infantry and dreadnoughts rather than look odd alongside.

I like the shapes on the bottom edge of the hull that your weathering’s created. I’m saving this to my reference folder.

Very nice, I love the weathering. Are these part of a larger army/display or just a stand along project?

Thanks mate – in theory my Flesh Tearers are to be a standalone army that can link up with my (unpainted) Blood Angels for larger games. I have a ton of models for both, the main issue with them all of course being that they’re mostly unpainted and unassembled! 😉
