The next decent-sized bit of terrain I’ve finished this month is this …Lookout, or Observation Platform. I stole the build concept from someone else’s construction that I had found from some random GIS. Sadly, I’ve lost the page so I’m unable to give the original architect their credit right now, but if I ever see it again, I’ll edit this post and drop it in. The reason I really liked the look of it was, essentially, the flexibility it offers.
This is why I once again decided to go for a dark green – so it could fit into either a battlefield or industrial setting role – though I brought the shade up a little. I think it’d also work for post-apoc settings, though for that a bit more paint chipping and wear would probably help, though I’ve added a bit of that kind of weathering regardless.
I added the lambda/chevron decals to it as well to give it a small visual tie to the Sedition Wars barricades I painted several years ago. I figures since they both had dark green paint in common, and I wanted to use some more decals to add a touch of interest to this piece. Sure, the shade of dark green is quite different, but, you know, close enough. 😛
The other decals I used were of course Roman numerals inside a yellow circle, from the many Ultramarines/Space Marines decal sets. Again, combined with the dark green it creates a small visual consistency link to the Micro Art Studios Outpost Vents I showed yesterday. (Or in the background of the pic up top!) And yeah, I had some lighting issues today for this one. Due to the size of the thing, it didn’t fit in my light box properly, and so due to the placement of lights for the gaming table, I had a choice of dark front barriers, or a dark platform. So I kinda went with a mix in the end.
Once again, I’m submitting this for Dave Stone’s Winter of Scenery Challenge but . With one day left of August, I’ve got another 2 posts worth of terrain for it already ready to go up over the next two days, plus depending on how productive I can be tomorrow, another 4-6 posts worth of terrain that are thaaaaaaat close to being finished before September. Plus a personal round-up post. Gonna be a busy day tomorrow!

Yeah, the constructor-kit format of them gives a lot of scope for good looking builds beyond the boring boxes that they tend to show. Speaking for myself at least, I just need to see what more talented people than I have done online to draw useful inspiration from!

Nice! Yea, I was thinking it could pass for some Star Wars stuff too. Probably on the Rebel side. Though I think the Star Wars game that Az was playing, only uses tiles?

Not sure, I have played Star Wars with Combat Patrol and Legion which don’t use tiles.

Another great looking piece of terrain! You’ve really been on a tear lately with terrain. I tend to prefer to work on terrain in small doses so I’m not quite sure how you’ve stayed so motivated but it is clearly working 😀 Besides the great paint job, I really like the height this piece offers. It only makes sense that in the future, they’d want to get up a bit higher so they can look down and rain fire upon any enemies!

Thanks mate – the truth is that real life has pretty much been a shitshow for a couple of months, but I didn’t want to walk away from painting and hobby again right now, so I have largely gone with working on D&D boardgame figures – which I don’t care as much about as my “proper” miniatures – they just need to look good enough on a boardgame table – and terrain, since it’s usually big and actually often looks better if it’s a bit rough and weathered around the edges. Having Dave’s challenge has helped a lot as well – giving me more motoivation to keep kicking the terrain bits along to get then done. Quite sad it’s over now, really – but I have a few more reasonably-sized pieces in progress that should keep me busy for the next little while.

Sorry to hear that, mate. I have been dealing with lots of stress and the state of the world has been pretty distressing particularly in the United States so I can relate to what you’re saying. I hope that things get better for both of us soon and I appreciate you taking time to hobby even with the difficulties you face. I hope it has been rewarding for you as I know I’ve enjoyed seeing your progress lately.

Nice looking terrain and definitely a very useful piece to add to the table for so many different games. Looks like it goes together like the Deadzone pieces? I’ll have to look more closely at the floors again to see. Hopefully they changed that a bit so it all clicks together better. I guess the key is gluing it, which I tried to avoid for modularity and storage.
