A week or two ago, my pledge from the Dungeons and Lasers Woodhaven Kickstarter arrived, and then a few days ago I cracked open the shipping box that was slowly being shredded by Leonard the Cat. As with the stone stairs, I’ve added an updated pic with weathering with pigments and moss effects – added when I went back and added more after “finishing” them (and posting) earlier.
Inside, I picked out a few smaller kits with the intent to assemble and paint them quickly for Dave Stone’s annual Season of Scenery challenge.
These stairs were a €5.00 add-on, and came in this small, thin box. Inside, one fairly simple sprue.
Once clipped, you’ve got enough bits to make two small stairs and two small platforms – both with a footprint of 25mm square.
I purchased two sets, so I decided to show the small stairs and the platforms both as built, and also joined up as in the box renders. I glued both of my sets as seen on the box art, so I can use them as two smaller sets of double stairs, or shove them all together for a more Warhammer-sized set of single steps…
I tried the “climbing stairs” thing and found that they work with a few different kinds of bases, though it was tricky getting the 32mm Ciatel base in there – I’d avoid. The 30mm “generic” round bases as found on the teal Dragonborn fit much more comfortably, and the flat Renedra round on the green lizardman work very nicely.
As you can see from the final pic, they look …fine. They’re clearly made to work with a 25mm grid, and so are more oriented towards D&D with minis rather than fantasy miniature wargames that often tend to go a bit bigger with their bases these days.
I think the Kickstarter price for them was fair, and also truthfully about as much as I’d be willing to pay for them. They are smaller than I’d hoped they would be, and as such are going to just kind of be there for my own gaming purposes. They did at least paint up quickly and easily!

These look very effective mate, and your colours on them have a dark aged look to them.

Thanks Dave – I’ve painted them more or less to go with some other terrain I’ve painted recently as part of the challenge… I’ve been waiting ages for my Dirty Down Moss Effects (and other stuff), that *should* have been here by now so I can add the finishing touches… not looking good for it to arrive before September now…

Yep, they’re just progressivly drybrushed and washed over the black primer.

I like the colors you chose as the wood looks pretty aged and weathered as a result. I think the wood grains or indents could have been sculpted better but that’s out of your control and these will be handy to have in your terrain arsenal regardless. Its the type of thing that I wouldn’t think to buy until I really needed it and for that reason alone, its a good thing to have done.

Thanks mate. They’re broadly similar to some other wood I’ve painted recently but been unable to finish (waiting on that Moss effect paint), though these turned out a bit more start and dusty. The grain would have been more subtle if I had less contrast between the base and drybrushes.

That moss should look great on this piece. It sounds like its taken a while to get to you but I think you’ll really like it and find it useful.

Very nicely done mate, the climbing figures looked surprisingly effective, but a little precarious if the table got knocked!

Nice, look like some decent gaming pieces! I’ve heard of the Dungeons & Lasers stuff and even watched an unboxing on BMC. Been tempted at times to pick some up.

Thanks mate – they’re not bad – not totally amazing but pretty decent overall. I think they’ve reopened the pledge manager for this KS again recently for another month or so…
