Marvel United: Ms.Marvel

Marvel United: Ms.Marvel Painted Miniature Figure

Another Ms.Marvel today! Don’t worry, it’s the last one. I promise. Possibly forever.

Marvel United: Ms.Marvel Painted Miniature Figure

This figure, in the Chibi-like Marvel United style fell into the middle of the three games’ figures in terms of painting enjoyment – not as painful as the larger Marvel Crisis Protocol version, but still feeling a bit more awkward to paint then the Marvel Zombies version, given again large areas of flat clothing with little to no detail (and a Superhero Costume to emulate, rather than something to go crazy on). The larger face presents a bit of a challenge when compared to “normal” miniatures due to the more subtle blends required, but also gives more canvas to play with for the eyes and mouth, though her mask and forward-arm pose got in the way I little bit.

The costume here does at least give the character some definition that I was able to take advantage of, though the character still wasn’t doing me any favours. As with both of the other iterations, I used diluted Contrast Paint over pre-shaded metallics for the costume while painting other details traditionally. I again went with a medium skin tone to reflect Kamala’s background. I mean, they’re literally the same paint mixes as on the other two versions!

I do have to give credit to the designers for this one – the pose is at least heroic-feeling, with some (too much?) movement added via Kamala’s scarves. Certainly the best pose from the collection of these figures, with perhaps the smaller Crisis protocol one coming in second with the “hands on hips” stance that fits Kamala due to it’s “idealist” feel.

And here they are. Not one, not two, not even four, but FIVE versions of Ms.Marvel across three and a half games. I can’t say I enjoyed painting these – any of these, but now they’re all done and she can be added to the Roster of painted heroes (and an opponent) for three games. Once again, these go towards both “Fembruary” and Dave Stone’s Paint What You Got Challenge 24-25.

  1. I should have expected this one, as you do like to get all the versions for the different games done at the same time, and it makes a lot of sense, so you don’t forget how you did certain colours. Great work on getting them all done mate, and now all finished on this character.

    • Yep! I’ve got another one of these painful Marvel characters to post up soonish, but that’ll be March’s problem. With so, SO many Marvel characters to get through it only makes sense to me to always have a couple in the production line…

  2. I think you might have saved the best for last! I like the sculpt/pose and I think the character is well-suited to Chibi form as well. I’m sure you’re looking forward to moving onto a different subject matter and I applaud you for your persistence with Ms. Marvel too.

    • Thanks Kuribo. I do have to say that these Chibi-esque models are a lot better than I thought they’d be and often come out better than I expected them to. Ms.Marvel is done, the next one was just finished a few days ago, and now I’m onto another couple of backlog Marvel characters that have been on the desk for a long time.

      • That’s good to hear. Honestly, they look fun to paint. I’m almost be tempted to give one a go versus Marvel Crisis Protocol just for the fun of the chibi style.

      • Yeah they’re fun to paint and it’s also avery accessible fun little game. Very easily picked up, pretty quick, and both solo and co-op friendly.

You could do far worse than to pick up one of the inexpensive starter boxes from Amazon and see what you think.
