Zombicide Rue Morgue Abominations

Zombicide Rue Morgue Abominations

Another quick Zombie one today – I’ve had these two taking up space on the painting desk for a couple of months, and as I’ve gotten the rest of the half-painted Rue Morgue Skinner Zombies finished (as opposed to the many, many ones that have not made it to the desk yet!) these two were the last Zeds standing. In the way.

They’re not especially interesting as painting projects really. The thing that was kinda holding me up on them – aside from wanting to get the other more straightforward (walkers) and painful (fatties) Zombies out of the way first so I could figure out how I wanted to differentiate the soft fleshy parts of these “dried up’ zombie types from the hard carapace and spiky bits.

In the end I just went for some layered washes to make them a bit more fleshy. I’ve left them largely unbloodied for now aside from their bases – as I figure I can make a firm decision on how I want to add blood and gore to them once I’ve got the other Abominations painted – and then do them all at once.

As you can see, they’re pretty big when compared to the other Zombie types from Rue Morgue – as you’d expect from Abominations. That’s all the Zombicide for the time being (probably!)

  1. I like how these sculpts stand out from the other zombies but as a painting exercise, they do look tough to do much with. I think you had the right idea and they look great in the end. They will certainly look imposing in Zombicide too!

    • Cheers, Kuribo!

I mean, if my preferred colour for the carapace and bony growths wasn’t, well, bone and my preferred colour for these (in lore) older, more dried-up zombies wasn’t a similar tone then it’d be a lot easier to get some more interesting contrast happening. I think when I eventually add some directed blood spatter and smears to them it’ll add a bit more of a spot colour to make them a touch more interesting. Can’t really add stringing gore to these realistically given their use case!

    • Yeah. I can’t recall for sure since we haven’t played this version yet but I think they have something like an extended melee range or a “get over here” ability – hence the long arms!
