nonPareil Institute 3D Prints: Battletech Hab-Block

nonPareil Institute 3D Prints: Battletech Hab-Block

Another 3d print today – and something from a slightly different genre. We have several of a print known as “Hab-Block” from a free set of STLs – the BattleTech Building Collection 01 by someone/a group called nonPareil Institute.

I’ve printed (and then painted) two each of the ones with hex bases and also no bases. I don’t feel like these are particularly “Hab-Block” like in their aesthetic, but I’m sure they’ll be totally fine on a tabletop.

Speaking of “on a tabletop” – as it happens, they look pretty reasonable as “large scatter” –  essentially LOS-blockers for infantry-sized models as well as very throwable pieces of tech if you’re a Marvel Crisis Protocol figure. They kind of look like semi-futuristic servers or something like that in this scale.

They also look entirely appropriate with more “Epic” scaled models. Which is a good thing! Even if they do seem a little small. Or odd in some ways (no doors!)

Marvel Crisis Protocol: Cosmic Terrain Pack (Part Three) – Kiosk

Marvel Crisis Protocol: Cosmic Terrain Pack Kiosk

It was over a year ago now that I completed the first parts of this terrain pack from Atomic Mass Games for Marvel Crisis Protocol. I’d be understating things if I said that it turned out I was not particularly fond of the models in this kit, so it’s taken until now for me to get enough motivation to force myself to finish this piece.

I painted the kiosk in the same overall manner as the previous pieces, so that they at least look vaguely like they belong together on whatever board they end up on. The painting technique is well-described in those previous posts as all I needed to do to this one (for almost a year) was simply the “finishing off” elements.

L0oking at this image, I’ve just realised that I forgot to paint in those cable going from the antennae to the fuel boxes. Well, just pretend that those are painted. I’ll bring it back inside and hit them with a contrast or speed paint. proably in a deep dull red or something like that.

I think I may also need to hit those weird circles with a gloss varnish as well. Pretend that they’re a little more shiny as well then.

I’d hoped to get this thing finished for Dave Stone’s most recent Season of Scenery, but it was not to be, due to one particular other kit putting me off working on models for a time and other things being more interesting and more pressing. Still, it’s done now, and so all that’s left for this set is to paint those two billboard sign things that you can see on the bottom right of the above image. They also already have all the scratchy worn green done on them if I recall correctly. I should really get them done so the whole kit can be ticked off. I’ll have to find them first, though…
