More terrain today that had been waiting for the Oil Wash sessions at the end of last month for their completion. These are paid-for STLs from Wargame Forge over on MyMiniFactory.
Pretty straightforward painting method overall: Filler Primer, Primed Black, Sprayed with either Citadel’s Leadbelcher or Vallejo’s Gunmetal (I fogot which, preobably Vallejo). I then overpainted the red panels which I later stippled a subtle highlight onto. These will fit in very nicely with the other “Admech/Mechanicum” themed terrain I completed last year.
Then it was applying the Decals – which I took from some Admech and Mechanicum kits and a gloss varnish. (Much) later on it was time for oil wash part 1 (black/brown) and then aweek later part 2 (shades of orange/rust). Then a few days later, spray varnish to seal it all in and done.
Something I do like about these is that they’re pretty scale-agnostic. Now obviously being STL files, they can be embiggened as much as you like (or can fit on a build plate) – but even printed at Battletech Gothic scale, they still work ok with a variety of other models, scales and genres, as you can see in these photos.
I only printed one of the intact version. Perhaps I should have done two so I could have a larger refinery area on the board? I was thinking it’s too late as these are all finished, but I guess it wouldn’t be hard to print another one of these and the painting process wasn’t horrible – the biggest issue being getting the desk cleared for Oil Washing (and later, photography!)
These models are also pretty scale-agnostic as well. I’ll get some scale shots with models next to them up in a forthcoming post. And yet again, these were completed during the timeframe of Dave Stone’s Paint What You Got Challenge 25-26 – so have another shoutout, Dave!

Very nice

Excellent work on the ruined and intact versions, and can see the mech vibe in them enhanced by the transfers and the colors used, but will work just as well for other systems.

Thanks Dave. Yeah, I figure that despite leaning further into the Mechanicus-um look with the scheme and the decals, red tanks are still pretty generic for sci-fi settings. Maybe not so realistic as the spheres in white, but then the heavily-overly riveted look of these precludes them being anywhere nead “perfect” for moderns anyway.

Cool!
It’s always nice to have ruined versions of intact buildings. I have a load of card buildings where the top lifts off to reveal a ruined version underneath. Used to use them afor Epic, where Titan weapons were destructive enough to destroy a building during the game. Fun, but nearly as nice as these ones of yours!

Thanks Frank – your buildings sound perfectly good to me quite honestly. Before the very recent addition of 3D printing to my hobby workflow (and only then due to the Bambulab printers being so simple to use) I would never have had the time nor resources to put together this kind of stuff (despite having a lot of varied terrain).
The main thing that always had stopped me from playing anything in non-28/32mm scale was actually the terrain. While rivers and hills and rocky outcrops and even some machinery-things like fuel tanks are pretty generic, buildings and more involved structures were always …a bridge too far!

Very nicely done! 🙂 I like the red shade! I reckon they’re quite a decent size!

Cheers John. They’re certainly some hefty pieces. I’m looking forward to finishing the Epic Scale table so I can see how all these Mechanicum, pieces look when they’re placed down together.

This looks like a pretty versatile piece of terrain and as always, you painted it up extremely well too. I like how it looks dirty and like there’s oil stains on it. That really brings the whole thing to life for me anyway!

Thanks mate! It’s pretty simple in the end, and the only tricky part was getting the oil washes done!
