Another set of Stormtroopers today, and as the title says and your eyes clearly show, “but in red this time”. “Why would you do that?” you’re probably not asking. Well, I’mma gonna tellya why anyway. It’s pretty simple really. I have two of the original core sets and also some of the newer models. If I paint them all white, it would be a bit boring for me to have SO many duplicated models painted exactly the same, as well as potentially a bit difficult to tell them apart when groups converge.
Since there’s toys and merch and stuff out there with different coloured Stormtrooper armour out there in the various parts of SW canon and Legends, I painted a squad in red because I think they look good. These ones are called “Crimson Stormtroopers” and no doubt have a detailed and involved backstory that Disney threw out but will be resurrected in some form by Dave Filoni sometime in the future.
Here’s a little comparison between the two schemes. I feel like these guys in red would have a bit of rank over at least some of the standard white-armoued stormtroopers, so their leader got the orange pauldron.
I still have the second squad from the second starter box, and those will be painted in another scheme that also had it’s roots in some part of SW lore that I’m not that familiar but I think looks good. I then have another squad of these that I bought years ago expecting HIPs models and then put aside that then disappoeared into the warp that is my unpainted model collection, so I think we’ll see one more set of these models painted in the next month or two, but the lost one is …lost.

Yeah, I’ve seen them in red (and some other variants) and they do tend to look good recoloured.

The backstory is simple, these stormtroopers guard the Emperor’s Guards, hence the red armor 😉 I think they look great in red and so I’m glad you chose to do something a bit different with them.

And some of them are Lavatroopers, and some of them ARE the Emperor’s Guards, and.. I mean, it’s no wonder Disney nuked the entire convoluted thing from orbit. Not that this helps a lot of the fundamental problems in Star Wars that Lucas managed to put in place…

These good really nice mate, I’ve always fancied doing some in camouflage, but as Star Wars isn’t really my thing it’ll never happen.

Excellent work on the red armour, reminds me of the cosplayer with all the gold chains and boom box that was going to a lot of the conventions.
