Star Wars Legion: Stormtroopers (1st Edition)

Star Wars Legion: Stormtroopers (1st Edition)

Back to the Star Wars miniatures today to begin June’s models with two squads from the original 1st Editon Starter Set – the boys in white, the Stormtroopers. The original set comes with two squads of seven stormtroopers, including one each of two heavy weapon options of the DLT-19 heavy blaster rifle and the HH-12 Rocket Launcher.

There’s not a whole lot more to write about these guys, they’re very much the “potatoes” part of the “meat and potatoes” part of Star Wars. An amazing, timeless design, and you want a good number of them for any encounter!

Star Wars Legion: Stormtroopers (1st Edition)

I gave both squad leaders white “Sergeant” Pauldrons, as opposed to the orange ones that seem to designate “Staff Sergeant” but also sometimes “Squad Leader” which would potentially be something like a Corporal if taken literally except people also discuss black being for Corporal. In my own little force, I’m going to go with Orange outranking White, which does seem to be accurate across the board and gives me somewhere to go with additional models as I paint them.

And here’s the shot of them with Lord Vader leading them. I couldn’t take photos of my newly-painted Stormtroopers without one also featuring Vader now, could I?

More models tomorrow!

  1. Excellent work on both squads of stormtroopers, great clean look to them and Vader looks awesome leading them.

There seems to be so many different ideas and versions of what the pauldrons colors stand for, especially when it comes to Tatooine, as they all have them there, and plain black there is standard trooper, according to one book, but you look in another totally different, so go with what you want in your house, in mine orange is captain, white sergeant and black trooper, red flamer, and yellow mortar crew.

    • Yeah, Star Wars ranks and pauldrons are all over the shop in canon, never mind in comics and the like. Modern fan attempts to rectify them and bash them into some sort of sense always run into the weird contradictions.

I’m going with rank being Red>Orange>White>and Black for “specialists” that may or may not be corporal, since a lot of heavy weapon models seem to have them, but not all.

Not sure about the Yellow yet. I’ll figure that one out when I get to it.

Except Incinerator and Morar troopers that will ALSO have the coloured pauldron for no real reason except they wanted to distinguish them for toy sales. 😉

    • Thanks Frank. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a painful process, but I make myself do things to a certain level even when I really don’t want to go through it. A lot of my stuff has that positive-negative part of the process but it’s the finished product that makes it worthwhile.
I’d also be lying if I said I sometimes see other people’s work and wonder why they went that far on this or that model or terrain piece, so there are always plenty of my own models that get to “good enough” that I call them done. These among them, actually!

  2. This is a fantastic looking squad, mate! I love to see Vader taking charge as well. As I kid around with Mr. Stone, the real test is whether they can hit anything or not in-game 🙂
