After ending the previous post with a touch of foreshadowing, here we are – with another MOTU boxed set completed. These three were basically assembled and spray primed when I finished the last three, so I used that motivation to get them painted quickly.
The Hover Bots were first – being pretty simple and straightforward. Again, I don’t really know who these characters are, so reference photos of the toys were super useful on top of the product art to see what was supposed to be going on.
Not sure if those spider legs are part of Webstor (what an awful name) or part of his backpack. They’re…. kind of both on this model, so I assume that was also the workaround for the action figure back in the day as the MOTU figures had a LOT of part reuse across figures.
Overall, painting these three was far less annoying than painting Leech and Scorpia, so perhaps I’ll start and even finish the next MOTU figures before 2027. Of course, there’s a lot more stuff higher on the priority scale, but maybe I can sneak a 3-pack of painting palette cleansers through…

I love these! So cool! Those robots look fantastic.

Thank you. Luckily they were also relatively simple to paint as well! 😅

They look awesome! There’s so much weird stuff going on in MotU, you’ve definitely got that vibe here! 😃

Yeah that’s for sure! I’ve pulled out another three of these smaller boxes to get started on, so hopefully those ones take me less time than these last two sets!

It’s definitely a good idea to have those smaller things to keep for motivation between the longer projects!!

Yeah, I’ve mostly been working on Legion squads lately, and they’re becoming more than a bit of a grind!
Speaking of grinds, yesterday I also found the container with the core set terrain that still needs to be mold-line-cleaned, so have been doing some of that. :p

Those robots are cool!
Yeah I agree Webstor is a pretty rubbish name, nice paint job though

Thanks Frank!
I find the name reminds me of both Webster (if you recall the series from the 80’s) and “Web Store” – so doubly cringe!

Excellent work on all three, not ones I really remember but your painting on them is superb.

Thanks Dave – nor are they ones I have any memory of either! Not surprising I guess for a long-running toy line!

These look great mate – big fan of the furry pants they seem to love in the MOTU 😆

Thanks Alex – chalk it up to part reuse in the toy biz. Probably that. Once I get insanely jacked, I’ll have to buy a pair of furry undies and test it for myself!

I really like the blue shading on Webstor, it turned out really well. The robots looke cute, I want to give them a big hug 🙂

They might be a bit small for that, but I’m sure someone makes plushies of these weird looking robots!

The robots are surprisingly cartoony and cutesy to someone who doesn’t know MOTU at all. They kind of remind me of The Jetsons, funnily enough. Webstor does have a pretty cringey name but he looks really cool. Painting all three of these in blue tones really make them look nice together as well. I have no idea if they have any actual connection to each other but its cool seeing them as a triad all the same.

Yeah, there’s some Great Gazoo vibes there for sure, but then again the MotU cartoons had that silly Orko character, so I guess they’re from the same column. I guess maybe they have a connection since they came in the same set, but it might be simply that they’re from the same faction?

Nice painting. I don’t remember Webstor at all, but those wee robots put me more in mind of Hordak from the She-Ra show. Maybe it’s even more expressly a single combined universe anyway.
