Zombicide 1st Edition: VIP Zombies – Punks Not Dead(!?), Bad Cops & New York, New York

Zombicide 1st Edition: VIP Walker Zombies, Very Infected People - Punks, Cops, Police, Sailors

Once again, I managed to get a few of these “special” walkers painted up over the course of November. While I did manage to get a fair few “regular” zombies painted over the month, I feel that these VIP walkers do deserve a little more time and effort in getting them painted (for the most part, anyway!) I do wonder how well these will stand out once I have more and more zombie models painted – especially once I get to the Second Edition zombies, who are generally much more unique, wacky and “out there” compared to the 1st Edition models.

First up we’ve got the sterotypical punks in their full “uniforms”. I wanted to differentiate the two models, despite sharing the same sculpt – so aside from different mohawk dye, one got camo pants in a rough estimation of multicam while his mate got the classic plaid punk-style “bondage pants”. I painted their boots as Doc Martens by adding the yellow sole stitching (which you can barely see in my bad photos) to both the Black and the Cherry Reds, and after a bit of poking around, I figured that the Black Flag and DK logos would be the easiest to “read” on such mangled tops.

Next up, we have the Cops. (Bad Cops, Bad Cops!) I painted these two lads based on our own Victoria Police. To this end, they got the dark blue uniforms, the chequered dicing sillitoe tartan hat banding (which you can barely see in the photos) and an attempt to paint in the ridiculously complex VicPol badge onto their tiny hat and chest badges (and paint them into their shoulders!)

Finally, a pair of sailors, whose excitably jaunty poses made me think of this little ditty….

Of course, there’s only two of these sailor zombies (they must have eaten their fellow!) They do however both wear moustaches, so in retrospect they make for my somwhat anaemic contribution to the Mo’vember painting challenge. which I *think* Roger of Rantings From Under the Wargames Table was running…

Micro Art Studios Processing Plant

My next post is another set of terrain from Micro Arts Studios. This time it’s the Processing Plant (which seems to be OOP). Once again it’s a pretty decent, but slightly wonky casting of a solid bit of wargaming terrain.

In a nice bit of versatility, the two parts of the kit can be arranged either next to each other, for a double-silo effect, or separated – either to make them into two distinct pieces, or perhaps to link via the use of a walkway (I couldn’t easily find an appropriate sci-fi walkway when taking the pics).

In a less nice example of execution, the two halves of the piece didn’t actually fit together nicely at all, and so I added some textured plasticard to both segments. I did this both so they would fit more flush against one another, and also so they would not look like complete arse when not flat up against another piece of terrain.

I also added some ladders from a Prodos/Archon terrain kit, in order to enhance the “playability” of the two pieces and give some specific points that models can climb up and down.

Like the two Crate Heaps just shown, (and why does the old invoice I just found from 2019 list FOUR crate stacks????) this set of two pieces sat on my side desk for two years – with the same situation at the start of November of me deciding to force myself to knuckle down and just finish the fucking things.

So it’s not too flashy, but it’s a decent pair of finished terrain bits now that they’re done. I went for my preferred “Necromunda Blue” kind of look, and added just a couple of decals from some ancient military kit along with various weathering products.

It’s certainly good enough to use in 40k, Necromunda, or any other sci-fi game – and would likely be just fine for most post-apoc or near-future settings as well. Not too loud, but a bit of space to climbs around on and fight over. Most importantly – finished and off my damned desk!
