Archon Studios Ramparts – “Kazumi Extras”

Archon Studios Ramparts - "Kazumi Extras"

These small models technically just missed Dave Stone’s of Season of Scenery Challenge as I finished them on this last weekend, though I did have them on the go for awhile before that, so we’ll see if Dave decides to include them in his final round-up for the 2023 Season.

Once I cleared the Taxis and Pimpmobiles, I was able to focus on getting these smaller pieces of scatter done. They really didn’t take all that long to get the painting done once I got going.

Before the paint, I spent a bunch of time texturing them by stippling them with my faithful AK Easycast texture medium to get rid of the smooth plastic texture and add in that roughness.

Paint process was painting them in dark green, then 3 successively lighter drybrushes of Khaki/Medium Stone through to off-white. Black-brown wash of “Marine Juice” and then some thinned green glazed over the bottom areas to add the mossy effect.

These crystal things were painted in using off-white, then pale yellow before being hit with Tessaract Glow.

Finally, here’s a trio of models from different game systems to provide scale shots. One more Season of Scenery post to come!

Zombicide 2nd Edition: Pimpmobiles

Zombicide 2nd Edition: Pimpmobiles

A couple of the (almost) final models for Dave Stone’s of Season of Scenery Challenge – we have the Pimpmobiles from the Second Edition of Zombicide – which slot perfectly into games of First Edition. While we have some approriately-scaled toy cars that we prefer to use over the cardstock pieces provided by the game, the toy cars don’t feature the “gameplay” element of being able to place individuals in the seats as you can get in and out of cars in the game. There are two general types of cars – Police Cars and also “Pimpmobiles” – the topic of this post.

These Pimpmobiles can be searched and often have slightly more powerful (especially in the early game) “custom” weapons in them. I bumped these up in the painting queue since we do use these ingame, but they really started to look incongruous as plain plastic alongside the painted player character figures and now painted zombie models as well. So I went with “loud” looking vehicles and even created some douchily-appropriate custom licence plates in Photoshop.

I’d be lying if they weren’t inspired at least in part by the custom car creators in the older Saints Row games (back when they were good). And I mean – Pimpmobiles, right?

Posting these suffered a couple of delays due to not being able to play Zombicide for the organic “in action” photos I wanted for this post due to Marouda catching the plague. (Yes, that one). Still can’t play or do anything together, so I went out and just took some pics an hour or so ago.

Of course, I still need to paint the two Police Cars that I also picked up, and I’ve only just started working on those.
