Some readers may have noticed that I haven’t actually finished or showcased any terrain for this month and part two of Season of Scenery Challenge. Well, it’s time to rectify that today.
The look of the …shields(?) seemed to indicate a concrete surface more than a metal to me, so I textured them slightly with my go-to AK Interactive Easy Cast Texture Paste to rough them up just a little bit more.
I also spent some time fumbling with exactly how to paint the coils and pipes. I’m not really a big fan of everything glowing a super-bright blue so I eventually settled on my favoured coppery tones along with brownish and bluish metals.
And finally, here’s Spidery-Man posed on top to provide us with a scale shot of these pieces. With three days left in the month, I’ve got two more pair of terrain pieces with just a few touches to go, two larger pieces with a lot more to go, and three significant pieces that I really would like to finish two of in the remaining time. Shame I also have to go to work…
Stunning looking piece mate, I agree the front plate looks concrete from the outside, so great call adding the extra texture to really sell the idea. I like the metal tones you’ve gone for, and a great call not going the glowing blue route, don’t need it everywhere.
Such a pain work getting in the way when you’re on a roll like this ! LOL

Thanks Dave – yeah, they really had a cast concrete feel to me from the models – much more than looking like metal sections, so I leant into that. There are also some turret bunkers in the same style and on those they really make a lot more sense as concrete rather than metal.
I’ve got some 40k Industrial terrain I wanted to work ok this season but they didn’t make it out of the tub that they’ve been in – built and started on – since last year’s SoS. Maybe over summer I can get them finished (it’ll be after the road tiles get finished, either way!)

Well, surprise, surprise, Dave Stone has, yet again, said everything I wanted to! 🙂 I know he can’t be mind reading, because my mind just contains rubbish and ideas for cutting out bits of cardboard! The copper really does stand out very nicely! 🙂

Thanks John! It seems that Dave does come up with some good lines from time to time! 😉

That’s a really cool piece of terrain. I don’t follow MCP very much so this one is new to me. The concrete looks excellent and so does the Hydra symbol. Its got just the right amount of wear. Hail Hydra!

Thanks mate! I wanted to give a nice weathered and worn look to the concrete as well as a weathered look to the hydra symbol rather than a clean and colourful one (like the one on the box).

Thanks mate! Hopefully I can get the other ones that go with the same theme as these finished sooner rather than later…

Very nice – and as others have written great call on the concrete texture.

Thanks Mark – didn’t get the Part 2 of these done in time for SoS, but hopefully I get them finished in a couple of weeks.
