Once again I failed in my “two per month” quest to get these Cthulhu Death May Die investigators done – with only Sergeant Welles finished in August. This meant I needed to paint three in September to catch up. So I’ve only now just finished the model I was initially painting alongside Welles – Alex Parker. This also means to get back on track I need to finish two more of these things in the next four days. No pressure, then!
The first of these two then is the previously mentioned Sergeant Ian Welles. He’s a U.S. Army Veteran of The Great War from Maine who now fights against the gibbering eldritch hordes. No relation to any other U.S. Army Veterans who hail from Maine that frequent this blog, I’m sure. The artwork shows the model wearing puttees, but – once again in this series of models – the digital sculptor, while talented, didn’t know what he was looking at in the artwork and just did a bit of “whatever” and sculpted Welles with essentially long socks (and another webbing belt with no eyelets), so I had to “paint them in”. The blame also has to fall on the CMON Art Editor for this project as well for the regular sculpt mistakes, but
The second of these models is Alex Parker, who comes from Brisbane, Australia. Alex’s backstory is pretty uninspired, as I’d expect from a token Australian character. He apparently was a curious child who became a curious adult who got involved in various criminal investigations and eventually unearthed a cult. I enjoyed painting his (military?) clothing with the exception of his argyle socks, which are inexplicably visible with his weird short-legged pants. Huh. Over the two models I based their clothing colours on the artwork, rather than trying to match early 20th Century uniforms.
Both look great mate, and so much detail on those socks, I’d have gone mad as if Cthullu himself was testing me ! LOL

Thanks Dave. I’d be lying if I said I enjoyed painting the socks or appreciated the time that they took to do, but I am certainly happy with the completed figure!

Those argyle socks are nicely done! What color did you use for the darker green costume? That looks perfect for the classic Marvel Hydra costumes. Not sure if the MCP is using similar or newer costumes, though if I ever get ahold of them I’ll paint them in more classic colors anyways. ;P

You know, that’s a good question. Offhand I’m not sure, but I’ll add it in as a note in the (hopefully near) future when I see the right paint on my desk as I did look through my greens specifically for both of these models.
MCP is using the classic look

Though I’ll probably go a bit more modern/tactical with my own Hydra (and Shield) troopers – at least with the bright Yellow and White elements – as I have no particular attachment to the classic look for either.

Oh yea, I think that was an 80s costume redesign for Hydra. But definitely keeping the classic yellow and green colors.

I never really paid much attention to either of them – at least not closely, so any minor variations would have completely passed me by from these

The socks. Oh, the socks! :O
They kind of steal the show, but both minis look absolutely gorgeous!

I tell ya, painting those socks sucked! 😀

Design deficiencies aside, these two minis are pretty much pulp perfection, I reckon! You did a great job bringing out their full potential and they’ll look great in future games as well.

Thanks Kuribo! When I eventually fine/make some time to start converting more of these other models to Zombicide I’m sure we’ll get even more use out of them as well. 🙂

Wow, well done on Alex’s socks, you’re a braver man than I think I’m going to be! Both of them are looking great and I like the different greens you’ve chosen to differentiate what could, on the tabletop, be fairly similar models.

Sometimes I see things like that on models that I would normally never do and just have that “oh, alright, I’ll give that a shot” to try and…
…well, kind of test myself, but to see if I can actually do it, and if so, how well. Sometimes it works, like here (and hopefully on Cthulhu’s dome) or Spidey’s black web-lines, and sometimes it doesn’t – like Gold Spidey’s *gold* web-lines.
I have to give credit to the art for the different military greens. If they weren’t obviously different I probably would have just auto-piloted on both and they’d look almost identical!
