Zombicide 1st Edition: Zombie Walkers, Part Finito – Completed!

Zombicide 1st Edition: Zombie Walkers

Long time no post, I know. This latest hiatus hasn’t exactly been intentional, but as we all know, time is a zero-sum resource, and so posting has been a thing that’s missed out over the past couple of months. One thing that I have been attempting to keep my hand in has been the old model painting – and so this post is essentially what would have been several posts over December combined into one mega-post of Zombicide Zombies.

The first batch of 6 you could call “Homeless Zombies”, or “Bums” as films of the 70’s and 80’s would have called them, or “Unhoused Previously Persons” as modern social media addicts would say, or even “Dressed-for-Winter Walkers”. I just call them Zombie Walkers, and regardless of what they were previously, they’re now cannon fodder for our survivors, but they will add some more variety to the table.

Next up we have the Miami Vice Collection. Painting these walkers in 80’s “Art-Deco” Pastel suits was Marouda’s idea way back when I was painting the original batches of these sculpts in mostly generic business dress. Since I had so many or these sculpts to paint, it wasn’t much to put some of the ones I had left when she made the suggestion to get back to later.

Now, only a short(!) 12 months later, I’ve gotten them painted. Their colour combos were taken from a mix of screenshots of Miami Vice outfits, “inspired by” photoshoots, and some GTA Vice City-styled artwork.

The next set are the Female Walkers in summery skirts and tops. I tried to vary them a little from each other, with a couple that fit in reasonably well with the Miami Vice theme that we’ve just looked at, as well as a few more generic outfits that fit in with the other walkers previously painted as well as just working for the sculpts.

It does get a little taxing trying to work out outfits for female models like this, especially as women are more likely to wear colourful clothing in all sorts of combinations as opposed to the male figures which work well in more muted, repetitive schemes (Miami Vice impersonators aside!)

With the second sculpt type for the Female Walkers, I went a little louder in some of the outfits – again it works well compared to guys. This being 1st Edition Zombicide based on French comic art, we once again have “sexy zombies” represented by exposed stockings and panties (nevermind the butt-cheeks and g-strings through the skirts in the previous sculpt!)

I’m not going to try to moralise it or anything, I just think “sexy zombies” is a bit weird, but hey – people can be into whatever they like. I understand that there are products out there for people who are into that, so you do you and all that. Maybe I should finally watch that “Zombie Strippers” film and then maybe I’ll be a believer?

Finally, something that’s probably a little more in the wheelhouse of many of us in this blog circle – we have a pair of zombies in 90’s-style outfits reminiscent of a particular retailer many of us probably frequented to a greater or lesser extent. These Walkers just want to know how they can help you and what army you play…

And to finish, another group shot – but much more from eye level. Time for everybody to get shufflin!

    • Thanks Wudu. At this point I really have no idea how many there are. At least a couple of hundred, but I’m holding out on the group shot until I’ve gotten all of my 1st Edition Zopmbies done…

  1. Very nice work all around, mate. There’s no doubt it is an excellent painting haul! I like your ideas for keeping the zombies interesting and unified. Every time I see your Zombicide work, its a nice reminder of how malleable they are as painting subjects. There’s always new fashion choices/styles to try painting!
