Several months ago, when I was much closer to the start of this Epic scale project, I printed and painted a large, damaged skyscraper from Fabricator’s Lair on MyMiniFactory that came from the Epic Scale Grimdark Gothic Buildings Set #1. Today, I have another two damaged “pre-designed” buildings from the same set, though the lot can be aquired from the Epic Sector Sanctuary set – which is the bundle that I purchased to get all of these.
First up we have this “+”-shaped building that’s pretty blasted up. A pretty good looking piece – just don’t point out the fact that despite the visible internal doors there’s no entry/exits on the ground floor!
In contrast, this brick of a building has rather large doorways on both sides of the ground floor. Much more sensible, if you ask me! If I were painting these for display purposes like our friend Kuribo, I may have picked out some of the rubble bricks in slightly different shades rather than the easier overall drybrushing and washing, but that’s the nature of gaming models versus display pieces! 😉
Here’s a slightly more spaced out shot of the two of these together. These are more of my July-August models (I’ve only just started finishing models for September – so I’ll finish the earlier ones first!) As per usual, these ones count as more models for Dave Stone’s Season of Scenery ’25.

These look great, really like the “burnt out” effect you got in the sides of the broken areas. Very cinematic!

Thanks Nicolas! I like to add a bit of soot and fire damage to those areas as well as above windows where I assume a fire may have broken out inside these damaged buldings.

Very nice, I agree the burned out bits are especially effective.
So when are we going to get photos of a cityscape, or better photos and a battle report with all these lovely scenery items in it?

Good questions!
There will be a kind-of cityscape coming in the next few days as I need to photograph everything painted in July and August once I finish the individual posts (one left, I think?)
The weather here is also pretty crappy as of late, so there are some things I need to do a bunch of spraying on outside that have been in a holding pattern for literally months as we’ve been going through winter, but I’m waiting on a day when the stars align (not too windy, not raining, not at work or having appointments/other committments and ideally, not too cold – to allow a couple of hours of spraying.
As for an actual batrep – unfortunately I’ve been putting it all into the terrain so far, so I have veeeery little built or painted in terms of forces. That’s why you keep seeing the dsame four mechs, three printed tanks and the smattering of unpainted infantry and that rhino and predator in every scale shot.
Closest I’ve got to cityscape shots so far are here:

Very nice! 🙂 They’re quite impressive buildings, damaged or not!

Thanks John. Just a shame it will take about 3-4 days to print the undamaged versions. Each. 😶

I admit I probably would have gone for the multi-colored bricks haha. Though at the same time, the monotone style you chose makes the battle damage look cool and stand out. I don’t know that I can easily describe the visual effect it creates but to me, the damaged parts look more grim, I guess you could say which I really like. The sculpt itself is very nice too. It has a nice gothic look which combines nicely with the larger scale of the building. Its cool seeing the tiny mech and tank next to it!

To tell you the truth, I did consider picking a few out in different tones. The things that brought me to my senses were the fact that there’s so many of them, they’re so tiny, there’s so many BUILDINGS to finish, and finally the fact that they’d all be much the same colour due to uniform building materials!
*plus dust covering everything.
I’ve just finished printing out undamaged versions of these two – they take a fair bit longer due to the “lego” nature of these kits so you’re printing out the details on tons of rooftops that will never be seen or used. Once I print the third one of them, I’ll hassle Marouda to finish cleaning them all up so I can paint the three in their undamaged glory!

It would take extra time and work for sure. It would be pretty fine work as well considering the size of those bricks. I look forward to seeing the undamaged ones when you get around to them!

When you think about it, it wouldn’t really be THAT much work, but still tedium I’d rather skip at that point! 😄

Absolutely gorgeous! Even despite the unsettling lack of doors! That makes me think of a net of underground tunnels to connect buildings…

Thanks mate! I may have to print and paint a whole series of underground entrances! 😉
