Marvel Crisis Protocol: Cosmic Terrain Pack (Part Three) – Kiosk

Marvel Crisis Protocol: Cosmic Terrain Pack Kiosk

It was over a year ago now that I completed the first parts of this terrain pack from Atomic Mass Games for Marvel Crisis Protocol. I’d be understating things if I said that it turned out I was not particularly fond of the models in this kit, so it’s taken until now for me to get enough motivation to force myself to finish this piece.

I painted the kiosk in the same overall manner as the previous pieces, so that they at least look vaguely like they belong together on whatever board they end up on. The painting technique is well-described in those previous posts as all I needed to do to this one (for almost a year) was simply the “finishing off” elements.

L0oking at this image, I’ve just realised that I forgot to paint in those cable going from the antennae to the fuel boxes. Well, just pretend that those are painted. I’ll bring it back inside and hit them with a contrast or speed paint. proably in a deep dull red or something like that.

I think I may also need to hit those weird circles with a gloss varnish as well. Pretend that they’re a little more shiny as well then.

I’d hoped to get this thing finished for Dave Stone’s most recent Season of Scenery, but it was not to be, due to one particular other kit putting me off working on models for a time and other things being more interesting and more pressing. Still, it’s done now, and so all that’s left for this set is to paint those two billboard sign things that you can see on the bottom right of the above image. They also already have all the scratchy worn green done on them if I recall correctly. I should really get them done so the whole kit can be ticked off. I’ll have to find them first, though…

Dark World Board Game Ogre (1991)

Dark World Board Game Ogre (1991)

Anyone remember Dark World? For everyone outside of the three of you that do, it was a miniatures boardgame that came out in 1991, following on from the success of HeroQuest, using very GW-inspired model designs. Though I’m not sure if anyone ever played the game, as opposed to getitng hold of it and then just owning a bunch of pretty decent for the time plastic models.

I’ve still got a couple of these models left. I painted the Haunter …8 years ago (fuck, I’m getting so OLD!) and I’ve got a few of the Skellies and Mummies in my Undead army (no idea about photos) and this ugly bastard of an ogre sculpt had been floating around since.. well I guess since 1991. Earlier this year, during Monster MayHem in fact, I decided to start painting him. I didn’t get him finished until slightly afterwards, and so here he is.

Simple schemes for simple models, right? I have to admit, I’m actually quite pleased with how this model came out. And it didn’t even take long once I got going. That’s the thing with so many of these things, though – with so much to do it’s often difficult to just focus on a single miniature and get it done. Even now on my painting desk aside from the things that are just parked there, I’ve got multiple sets of terrain and four wargaming units all “on the go” at once. Not counting any of the other things I have waiting in the wings.

Well, I can at least say that this thing is done, and since I have no idea where the other one(s?) are, I won’t have to worry about any more of these sitting around in the way for quite some time!
