I’ve now painted the final pair of all-out villains from The Legend of Drizzt Dungeons and Dragons Adventure Boardgame, with Yvonnel Baenre, Drow Matron Mother and Methil El-Viddenvelp, Mind Flayer. As upper-tier characters in the Drow hierarchy (AFAIK) I painted these with a bit more colour and bling. I gave the Matron Mother model a darker Drow skin compared to many of the others I’ve painted as a way to make her stand out and as a reflection of her status.
Once again, these models were apparently sculpted in chewing gum before being cast in cheap and nasty bendy PVC, but they’ll both be totally fine as models for use in the tabletop boardgame, and we’re now down to five or six remaining models to complete the set – two “Villains” that can also be played as Player Characters, three heroes and also I think I lost the Halfling Thief Player Character’s mini…

Yeah, they’re nothing special to look at but they *do* make for a more enjoyable time with the table. You should see the *next* pair of ’em… 😮

Especially compared to the unpainted ones. Some are about impossible to identify because the details are really soft and the plastic is so dark!

Yeah, these early ones have some real awful models amongst them. I think Jarlaxle is one of the worst in a lot of ways…

We appreciate again how you managed to convincingly “interpret” the details sketched in the (chewed) bubblegum. The game within the game seems to be figuring out the precise shape of these miniatures to make sense of them…😕 We especially like the combination of colours of the Mind Flayer and the attention with which you wanted to render the texture of the skin and the tentacles. But how many fingers does a Mind Flayer have? Three, four besides the thumb?

Haha – well the good part of this game within a game is that it (can) be done with reasonably quickly so we can get to the part that actually contains fun.
This particular Mind Flayer has …some …fingers? An impression of fingers?
Proper ones I would guess 4+thumb, but maybe Faust would know a more definitive number. 🙂

Nice work mate! I especially like the backs of the cloaks. If they ever released a metal (or at least more detailed version) of that Drow, I’d pick her up. Is Artemis Entreri one of the villains, you can also play as a hero! I think “Regis” was the name of the Halfling.

Thanks mate – I did at least use them to practise my wet-palette.
As for the Matron, there doesn’t seem to be anything easily/readily available of the right sort, an easier time would be had by finding an appropriate Warhammer Dark/Witch Elf sorceress who isn’t leaning too hard into the Slave Leia look. Not much luck in finding replacement Mind Flayers either it turned out.
You got Artemis in one as you’ve probably seen by now! I’ve also got Regis to paint (no Kathy Lee, though…)

I think there are some Nolzurs Drows and I should have two of them buried somewhere. Though I don’t think they were high matron material. I’ll have to check out the Artemis post!

Yeah, I have a Nolzurs blister here with a pair of pretty generic Drow in it. Good for warriors or grunts but not much more than that…

Ah thanks. I don’t have that set. The Amazon.au image of it only shows the male shooting the 3-pointer and not the female at all. These do fit the D&D boardgame scale pretty well, though they don’t integrate as well with my “normal” Warhammer collection..

A lot of what I said about the previous D&D minis applies here so I won’t repeat it all again. Good on you for getting these done and I commend you for getting her face done in particular. That is a really rough one with next to nothing to go off of.
