Marvel Zombies: Black Panther

Painted Marvel Zombies Black Panther Miniature Figure

Once again we have the third post in a Marvel Miniatures Trilogy – in this case, it’s Black Panther!

A very authentic “cat-style” view of Black Panther!

Black Panther’s model is a pretty nice one, despite my usual disdain for tactical rocks. I guess he’s perched on a rubble-strewn tree this time. Central Park, perhaps? Once again I’ve gone for the Purple highlighting as opposed to greys – as was pointed out to me some time ago, his black costume was highlighted with purplish-blue in some of the classic comics so I decided to go with that with these three figures. Blue was also popular in a great many of the comics, so if I have any more dupes of T’Challa, I may go with blues in the future for variation. ( I know there’s at least one newer MCP figure I don’t yet have of him).

One thing that Black Panther does not have in Marvel Zombies is a Zombie/undead version. As the game was in development shortly after Chadwick Boseman’s passing, Disney quite understandably decided that it would be in …poor taste to have a Zombie version of the actor in a licenced board game, so Panther is one of only a few heroes in the game to not have Zombie counterparts.

Here’s this newly-painted version of Panther alongside the previous “Heroes Resistance” version – so I have one Grey Panther and one Purple-black one for Zombies. So, yeah – if I have a third version it would work to make him a blue-black (not sure if another alt sculpt is in one of the KS extras boxes).

And to wrap up, here are all four painted versions of my Panthers-who-are-Black figures (so far). No doubt the future will hold at least another one or two, but this will have to do for the time being!

  1. Fantastic work mate, can understand the decision not to include a zombie version, with the timing, and is a fitting tribute to a great actor. All your versions look great and each has a unique look.

    • Thanks Dave – I just checked the article forthe “Artists’ Special Edition Set” to see if there was another Panther in there, but nope – so it’s just the additional Crisis Protocol model I have yet to paint (and buy first).

And I guess, the Girl Black Panther (Shuri, possibly/probably) from Marvel United Multiverse.

  2. That’s another great looking panther, except I kept saying “Umm, this isn’t the Marvel Zombie Panther?!”. Glad you explained it.
Not sure you would ever need it,
but I’d definitely keep those models around as sample recipes for different ways to do paint black. 😃

    • Well, thje way we play there’s still a use for multiples of the same characters in Marzel Zombies – we typically “choose” our Zombicide characters for whichever sub-game via random card draw unless we’re doing something specific (like plaing newly-painted models, or a certain team-up etc). Since the Heroes Resistance versions of the characters have their own unique cards with skill variants, it’s entirely possible to have two Peter Parker Spider-Mans or two Black Panthers (or a few others) in the same game, so this allows us to distinguish which one is which. Also things like Luke Cage vs Zombie Luke Cage can happen due to the way we randomly draw the models from the decks.

I guess not that different ot he way that two people can have the same characters fighting one another in a game of Marvel Crisis Protocol.

As a bonus, all of this also makes about as much sense as Marvel and the MCU’s “multiverse/spiderverse” stories do…
