Marvel United: Symbiote Spider-Man

Marvel United: Symbiote Spider-Man

Update: Tried the hot water to fix Spidey’s posture and it turned out pretty decently.

Marvel United: Symbiote Spider-Man

It’s been a good while since I finished a Marvel United figure, and this one had been on the painting desk for some time.

Marvel United: Symbiote Spider-Man

This figure has a bit of an issue with leaning. In that it’s leaning forward at a ridiculous angle for any kind of miniature, as you can see in these photos.

I guess I could dunk his upper half in boiling water in an attempt to reset the model with heat – the issue with that of course is the risk of completely screwing up the model as well as the paintjob. It’s the sort of thing I should have done before painting, if I’d noticed it at the time.

Still, looking at his shins and calves there, they’d end up with quite the weird bent-back shape if I did that as well – so I’m not entirely sure what to do about that. Quite annoying, since aside from the weird angle he’s perched on, I’m not at all unhappy with the paintjob on this figure.

On the other hand, this photo shows a bit more of how the model will look from the “above” angle that you’d see when playing with the figure in the game. Not exactly endraring, is it? Either way, this figure counts towards Dave Stone’s Paint What You Got Challenge 25-26, and is the first in my little “Men in Black” series of models for January. Unusually for me, the next two posts will NOT be the Marvel Zombies and Crisis Protocol versions of this version of Spider-Man.

Marvel United: Ms.Marvel

Marvel United: Ms.Marvel Painted Miniature Figure

Another Ms.Marvel today! Don’t worry, it’s the last one. I promise. Possibly forever.

This figure, in the Chibi-like Marvel United style fell into the middle of the three games’ figures in terms of painting enjoyment – not as painful as the larger Marvel Crisis Protocol version, but still feeling a bit more awkward to paint then the Marvel Zombies version, given again large areas of flat clothing with little to no detail (and a Superhero Costume to emulate, rather than something to go crazy on). The larger face presents a bit of a challenge when compared to “normal” miniatures due to the more subtle blends required, but also gives more canvas to play with for the eyes and mouth, though her mask and forward-arm pose got in the way I little bit.

The costume here does at least give the character some definition that I was able to take advantage of, though the character still wasn’t doing me any favours. As with both of the other iterations, I used diluted Contrast Paint over pre-shaded metallics for the costume while painting other details traditionally. I again went with a medium skin tone to reflect Kamala’s background. I mean, they’re literally the same paint mixes as on the other two versions!

I do have to give credit to the designers for this one – the pose is at least heroic-feeling, with some (too much?) movement added via Kamala’s scarves. Certainly the best pose from the collection of these figures, with perhaps the smaller Crisis protocol one coming in second with the “hands on hips” stance that fits Kamala due to it’s “idealist” feel.

And here they are. Not one, not two, not even four, but FIVE versions of Ms.Marvel across three and a half games. I can’t say I enjoyed painting these – any of these, but now they’re all done and she can be added to the Roster of painted heroes (and an opponent) for three games. Once again, these go towards both “Fembruary” and Dave Stone’s Paint What You Got Challenge 24-25.
