Marvel Crisis Protocol: Luke Cage (Weekend of Cage!)

Marvel Crisis Protocol: Luke Cage

What better way to follow up a post about Luke Cage than with… another post about Luke Cage? This model is the Marvel Crisis Protocol version, and is the one that motivated me to do this little batch paint of Luke Cage models. Specifically, after seeing it painted by friend of the Bitz Box, Argentbadger over on his own blog, The Bovine Overlord.

Marvel Crisis Protocol: Luke Cage

I do like this model. It has a grounded and steadfast look that so many of the Crisis Protocol models mack as they’re seemingly all too busy backflipping over exploding tactical rocks with their heads disappearing up their own backsides while connected to their bases with a 0.5mm twig of plastic

Cage’s model here isn’t even in a “come at me, bro” pose. It’s simply a folded arms stare. Projecting confidence and power. (man!)

He’s probabaly also banned in Russia presently due to his outrageous costume…

  1. I love it! That denim effect is absolutely superb. I have to agree with you about his pose; it’s just perfect for the character.

Have you tried him on the tabletop yet? I think that I’m a bit higher on him that I was in my original article; his bodyguard ability plus his natural resilience is often a very important part of the game even though he rarely feels spectacular.

    • Thanks mate! You could project a film onto his back on this model! 😀
I only got him finished literally a few days ago, so I haven’t had a chance to play him yet – he sounds like a good objective anchor-type hero from what you’re saying? I’m working on his partner now so wish me luck on getting him painted quickly! 😀

    • Yeah, I’m not a huge fan of tactical rocks in any form to be honest, since they break immersion for me in that “so they move that boulder around with them, do they?” but I’ve mostly gotten over it for most models, but the MCP ones are pretty egregious in wanting to be mini-dioramas instead with some ridiculous examples!

      • I know what you mean. It doesn’t bother me as much as it does you, but I think too many of the MCP bases look unnatural or forced, for lack of a better way to put it. I like a good diorama base myself, but I don’t think the MCP sculptor/designer gets that part quite right unfortunately. Its really the only criticism I have of their minis which otherwise look very nice.

  2. I agree that’s a great pose for him and painted up really well. I’m kinda thinking a dark blue denim might have been nice. But 1) I’m no master in denim textures 2) Lighter denim probably goes better with that yellow shirt.
