Cthulhu: Death May Die – Deep Ones

Cthulhu: Death May Die - Deep Ones

Despite other things that have happened over the month of October, I have managed to get some painting happening. Sure, most of it was pre-surgery, but painting nonetheless. I’ll also use this as my excuse in the liklely case that I don’t get my monthly pair of Cthulhu: Death May Die Investigators painted for the month (despite only having four left!) What I did manage to get painted was this lovely fivesome of Deep Ones, or Fishmen as they’re more properly known as (they go great in batter with chips and some chicken salt!)

The design of these models veers into the possibly-suspect area that a few of the others from this line have strayed into, what with one obvious mouth and two other mouth-like orifices. One at the base of the neck (that’s where the tentacles are coming from) and one… downstairs. Yes, there’s another case of suspected Vagina Dentata for the Mythos Investigators to …investigate. As you can see, I’ve subtly de-emphasised this potential issue with my paintwork by just going brighter all around. I’m not sure whether the concept art or the models came first – based on all of the small mistakes I’ve noticed on the Investigators, I’d guess the art came first in this instance as well because the art doesn’t give a feel of tentacles and the additional two “mouths” that the model wears.

Anyway, these models are a good example of ones that look better in hand than in photos I feel. They’re finished with a gloss varnish, and also have had glazes of pealescent paint added to parts of them in order to emulate that irridescent look that fish scales have. But much like a gloss finish, this doesn’t translate all that well to photography but actually looks pretty good in person.

Because the Cthulhu Mythos are all about World-Ending situations (in the end), I’ll nominate these for Dave Stone’s Apocalypse Me challenge, with a few more posts yet to come in that vein…

Cthulhu: Death May Die – Tcho-Tcho

Well, in September I didn’t manage to get three investigators completed to catch up from August and current month, and so with just two days left to go I wanted to make sure I still made some meaningful progress on getting this board game painted, so I pulled out the set of five Tcho-Tcho from the Season 2 set that I’d started several months ago.

Not knowing all that much in terms of the details of the Cthulhu mythos – particularly in terms of depth – I just went with my usual method of basing my paint schemes on the CMON illustrations once again. So they’re kinda like tanned, jacked ghouls – which will obviously give them some utility use for other games if ever needed.

These enemies seem to be on the lower tier, alongside things like Human Cultists and Deep Ones and Ghouls – at least if the miniatures are anything to go by! As noted above, I’m hoping that my offering of these five Tcho-Tcho will appease the Great Elder God of Wudugast for our monthly Death May Die pact…

I’d nominate these for Challenging Challengemeister Dave Stone’s Apocalypse Me, but it’s an October challenge, and these are September-painted models as I still have a few days of backlog to get posted up yet…
