More prints from Fabricator’s Lair on MyMiniFactory today. Or is it just one print many times? or two prints each times eight and a hell of a lot of photos of almost the same thing? I dunno. You decide.
We basically have two smallish pieces from the wide variety of Mechanicum set – specifically “Tanks>2×2>Tank_2x2_Cover_1 & Tank_2x2_Support_1” that I have simply printed eight times each, clipped together, sprayed zenithal white over grey filler primer, painted in the metallics, added number decals and then sprayed with matt acrylic before adding an oil wash (more from that same oily weekend with Marouda!) for a hopefully realistic grimy look.
These are once again from the Epic Sector: Industry bundle which is basically the bundle from their second Epic-Scale Kickstarter held some time ago.
There are a ton of other pieces in the same little sub-set of 2×2 Tanks. Basically, I just started printing a bunch of them semi-randomly and playing about with them. I found the ball using these matching segments appealing and decided to print up a few more, then a few more after that.
I really need to get some modern vehicles painted up. I’ve at least started building a few, so give me 6 or 16 months and I might have something more appropriate than these old, old Finnish vehicles to show alongside modern-looking industrial stuff!
Since I have always liked how Horton spheres look in the real world (as far as the aesthetics of industrial areas go – obviously as a result of the wargaming hobby plus being big impressive machinery – I’d slowly decided that eight of them would be an ideal number, as I can arrange them in a bunch of ways to create different layouts – especially when combined with others
These models were finished back in July, and still count for Dave Stone’s Season of Scenery ’25.

I’ve seen plenty of of spherical storage tanks but never knew they had a particular name!
Every day is a school day!
They look very realistic, that grimy wash is brilliant.

Cheers Frank. I admit, I did have to look it up awhile back to see if they had a specific name, so there you go! And yeah, I’ve started to find that Oil Washes are the business for stuff like terrain and vehicles!
I know they can also look great on regular models as well, but I don’t know if I’m ready to stop using all of the other techniques I enjoy! 😉

Considering they’re relatively simple shapes, they look really good (that is down to your painting of course)! 🙂

The small bit of detail that they have gives them just enough interest to not be visually boring, I think!

These are really cool looking both in their designs and how you weathered them up! This is the kind of thing you don’t find in MDF terrain as well so its cool to see something visually different. When you started painting Battletech, I didn’t see the vision with what you can do terrain-wise these days. Now I’m really starting to see the vision and how much variety is out there! As I said, I don’t like mechs all that much really but I’m ready to dig out Armored Core (or buy the one that came out within the last year or two) and do some mech battlin’!

Thanks mate. When I get to playing, which in itself is all too rare these days – I like to be able to set up a table that is “realistic” (or feasible for the context) but also with terrain that is varied and interesting. I like the “oh, that looks cool” bits, which for me make a game more fun by enhancing the visuals & table aesthetic. I’m not a massive Mech lover myself or anything (though I love 40k Dreadnoughts and find a lot of knights & mechs cool). I don’t know if Armoured Core 6 would be for me, as I don’t enjoy FromSoft’s games or Soulslikes particularly but it’d be a good one to see you review if you decide to play it!

I know what you mean about setting up a table that is realistic and varied and visually interesting. That is my preference as well. I can understand why people like mechs and I can’t really give a reason why I don’t like them more than I do. The old PS2 Armored Core games weren’t too hard actually. The customization system for building mechs was pretty deep but I was a kid when I played them and figured it out so its nothing something to be intimidated by. With that said, I don’t know much about the newest Armored Core and whether its very different than the old games or not. I should do a little research and see if its something that would appeal to me…

Makes sense, actually, mate – we like what we like and that’s it! I did play at least one of the old AC games at some point, but not enough for it to make a proper impression on me (aka I know I played one, but I have no recollection of it).
Definitely look into the new one before buying – I know it’s got some serious difficulty spikes on the boss fights.

Neat work, the idea of going with the steel was a good one, kind of breaks it up a bit , it’s good that you to have a great Tech Adviser😉.

Cheers Pat – even I have to admit that she comes in handy occasionally.
(Now let’s see if she reads this and I get a reaction!) 😉
