More 3D printed models today – we have the free sample Urban Building from Corvus Games Terrain over on MyMiniFactory.
It’s scaled for 28mm but I also scaled a couple of them up slightly with an eye to use in Crisis Protocol as well as the understanding that these things come in different sizes.
I did three of the larger ones, and then a few in smaller sizes to go alongside. There’s also another one but I missed that one when I was painting these, so it’ll have to happen later on.
Berkeley hasn’t had any large monsters to fight for awhile, so she’s helping do size comparison here instead today. Let’s be real though – if we stop thinking about “correct scale” for a moment and just look at the height difference, it’s also a completely reasonable size diference for a random civilian woman standing next to Captain America.
Since the tiles are still out, I thought I’d set them up and get a shot of the dumpsters set up on them – seems to work pretty well!

Nice! I agree about scale, sometimes you just gotta go with what looks right or the eye on the table!

Yeah, people can get a bit too concerned about every figure being the same height on the tabletop without looking at the “scale” of the other humans actually standing around the actual table.

100% agree, I don’t know why we don’t see more figures that vary in height. MCP comes to mind,

Yeah, I think licenced properties are often the only ones that seemingly differentiate between sizes of regular humans due to keeping to the source material.

Wow the rust looks good!
And I’m impressed you got the plastic of the lids.

Thanks Frank! I guess I’ve spent enough time around real life dumpsters to have taken it in to use as reference! 😀

These look fantastic mate, the weathering is awesome, the lids could do with some dirt or stains, or maybe even watermarks ( watered down white contrast could do that). Like the different sizes, and also works with the scale in the models.

Forget the water marks, as relooking the mottled pattern you’ve got does that perfectly.

Cheers Dave. Yeah, I gave them a light brown dirty wash on top – basically the same as around the bottom base areas.

Very rusty! Very nice! 🙂 They certainly look real!

Cheers John. It’s funny just how crazily orange they can get in real life. They look a bit oversaturated in these pics, but it’s really not too far from how they can look in reality.

Very nice work on these, mate. Dumpsters are a nice, if smelly, addition to any gaming table, I reckon. It was smart to do a few at different scales as well. You’ve reminded me that I have a dumpster for Fallout kicking around over here so I should work on it one of these days…

Thanks mate. It might be a nice quick palette cleanser for you in between other projects or while taking a break on larger ones.

Agreed! Working on terrain is a nice lower stakes thing to work on for me too. I’ll try to get those prepped so I can prime them at some point over the next few months while the weather’s hopefully good.

Yeah, clean-up, priming and base colours are the sort of painting I often try to get some of done when I can’t really be bothered painting.
