An intro here from Azazel – I’ve gotten Marouda to paint something again – a model for Swordmaster’s latest Monster March painting challenge
Marouda – Here is my entry for Monster March. I believe Az purchased this one especially to motivate me to paint with him.
It worked. I love Mythology, especially Greek Mythology. I however was confused why this model was labelled as a Gorgon, isn’t that a Medusa type creature? Then Az explained how in D&D they are called Gorgons.
This one was quick and easy to paint (yes even for a beginner like me) especially with Az’s tuition. I did everything on the model except for the eyes (because I have ham hands) and mounting the model on the oval base. I really enjoyed the dry brushing techniques and applying the washes. I even used contrast paint and was a bit nervous with that because I didn’t know how it would behave and was worried it would run and drip all over the model. I really like how the rocks turned out, and the process it took.
I enjoyed learning to highlight using metallics. Basically I wanted a bronze bull. I did google the model to see what others had done with it, before deciding on my own colour choices. I chose to keep my steam a clear subtle white. I saw that others made theirs green and it looked like boogers. You can actually remove the smoke, it does look a bit cartooney with it but sort of cute.
Az is always asking me to paint with him and to help him paint, and I dont usually take up the offer, which is really my loss because I could be learning and improving my skills as well as spending some quality time together and an escape from the Bizzaroverse outside.
I think the last time I painted anything was last Monster March? I felt a bit more confident this time around. Perhaps I might start looking for my next model to paint?
Hope you enjoy viewing my model and reading my post. Happy painting everyone!
