(Possibly) my last models for Swordmaster’s Monster March Painting Challenge. Today I put the finishing touches on my pair of 3rd Edition Blood Bowl Chaos Dwarf Bull Centaurs. I have the named H’Thark the Unstoppable as well as a generic Bull Centaur, created from a Warhammer Fantasy Battle Bull Centaur with the weapons and shield boss clipped off.
Neither of these were ever completed back in the day, though they were actively used back in 3rd edition. I actually completed the last of the Chaos Dwarfs for this team on the weekend, took photos of them, and then found one of the models still sitting on my paint desk – so I still need to set them up to re-photograph them this coming weekend. Monster March, however is about to finish – so these two get posted up now!
Great work! I am about to embark on my Chaos Dwarf army to use in Dragon Rampart using the old GW figures that I have had unpainted for years!

Sounds like a great plan, David! I’ve got a sadly neglected Chaos Dwarf army worth of models I really need (and want) to paint but I just never get around to it… maybe later this year?

Noice!! There’s something about Bull Centaurs that just sums up that whole period for me – gloriously bonkers 😊
Nice job sir 👍

Cheers Alex! Funny how they went from the Boar Centaurs to the Bull Centaurs to the immense Forge World versions over time – scale creep at it’s most out of control! (even moreso than with Marines!)

Great work on both your Bull Centaurs mate, you wouldn’t be able to tell one originally had weapons, which is the sign of a perfect conversion.

Thanks Dave! Quite the compliment! 🙂

Nice work on the bull centaurs, I hadn’t realised there were two different sculpts. When I ordered mine (from UK, over the phone, to give you an idea of how long ago that was!) they sent me two of the one on the left, and I always assumed that was the only BB model there was.

Cheers Dave – the one on the left is indeed the only official sculpt – the one on the right is a WHFB model that was stripped of his axe and shield boss!

That makes sense, nice work on the converting though, I really thought it must have been a second BB figure they hadn’t told me about!

Very cool – and very much “of their era” (in a good way). Well done on getting the team finished too, I’ll look forward to seeing them.

Thanks Wudu! I never really liked the “big hat” era of Chaos Dwarves to be quite honest – but they did work for me in the context of Blood Bowl. There have been quite a lot of later models (both FW and non-GW) that have somehow managed to pull off the Fantasy Army “big hat” look in a way that I do like.
Somehow. 🙂

Very nice! 🙂 Centaurs always have character I think!

That they do, John. Hopefully one day I can whittle down all this half-painted stuff and start painting some of my more newly-acquired centaur-types.

Excellent work on these, mate! I missed the heyday of Chaos Dwarves and I’d really like to see GW bring them back in some form in the future. They’re just good old fantasy fun, I think 🙂

Thanks mate – they’ve made small appearances as individual warriors in WarCry, so that’s something that will (hopefully) bode well for the future!
