Another pairing from the Marvel Zombies: Heroes Resistance board game as well as the “full” game – Marvel Zombies – this time we have Vision from Heroes’ Resistance and Blind Al from the Core Set.
I have to admit, I wasn’t aware of White Vision until recently – not because of Wandavision, but seeing the painted Marvel Crisis Protocol Vision model painted in white deco – most likely from someone in this blogging circle – but apologies, I can’t recall who it was. Then seeing that White Vision was a thing in the comics, and then later in Wandavision. This is another model for the list of ones that are tricky to photograph. White with subtle shading and pearlescent paint? Yeah, not great for my limited photography skills.
Since Vision is a duplicated hero for me – with a figure in the Heroes’ Resistance set as well as from somewhere in the mass of Kickstarter boxes, I wanted to paint them with some differentiation. On top of that, one of the Survivor cards has an ability called “Hologram”(they have different powers) – so for me that fit for this figure with his “floating over there” pose. So now we can use this model as Vision, or (once the other one is painted) we can also use it as the in-game hologram (basically, a decoy dummy).
The second model for this post is “Blind Al”. Not being a reader of the comics, I hadn’t realised that she was also race-swapped for the film series in the same was as Domino until painting this figure. Thankfully she’s not a character I’m invested in so I can still enjoy the film without getting annoyed or upset.
Al was pretty straightforward to paint and was actually quite enjoyable. She was started and finished in the same day on the first of October. I don’t have a whole lot else to add to that really, though it was fun to add a little purple rinse into that grey hair! She’s one of the civilian characters in the game so when playing in Hero Mode the players want to save them while in Zombie Mode you want to just gobble them all up!
Since these two are from a Zombie Game (hey Joe…) I guess that they qualify for Dave Stone’s Apocalypse Me 2023 challenge as well.

Nicely done mate – is tgat ‘blind Al’ the one from Deadpool?

Cheers Alex – yeah this is apparently based on the comic version of the character from Deadpool. She’s got a little Deadpool icon on her bag that I forgot to photograph…

Awesome job on the denim pants! How did you do the paint?

Thanks Tim!
Base coat is with Reaper’s Denim Blue, then careful drybrushing in layers adding progressively lighter blue-greys and emphasising the upper thighs, etc. I then thin some AP Blue Tone wash and add it in to some of the folds, under the legs, in the crotch, etc to darken those areas down. Just using small make-up brushes from a cheap Amazon set and trying to emphasise downstrokes rather than up-down or left-right too much.
I also do the jeans first (maybe after any drybrushing the base needs) and just go over the overbrush with the other colours later rather than trying to block everything in and then needing to worry about being careful.

Lovely painting- the all white look is hard to do but you’ve really pulled it off well.
Cheers,
Pete.

Thanks Pete! I’ll have to play around with my phone camera settings and see if I can do a better job photographing the model at some stage – probably when I have the other Vision model(s) painted for a side-by-side! 🙂

Wow, I’m amazed by the whites on Vision, as well as the whole paintjob on Blind Al, the jeans, the stripes on the t-shirt, the glasses… Everything is so cool!

Thank you! Al was a real pleasure to paint, it turned out!

Neat job with vision man. I had not known about blind Al and I was quite a big fan of the first two Deadpool films.

Yeah, for all the popularity of the character, Deadpool was created and introduced after I stopped buying and reading comics, so my character knowledge prior to the film(s) was pretty much through internet osmosis and the video game that I played aropund with for a short time.

Nice work on these two! Yea, White Vision happened during Byrne’s West Coast Avengers run. He was white with yellow shading, which I have to say didn’t look great. Blue is a better complement, so yours looks much better! 🙂

Yeah, I saw that when I was looking into the character via image search,. but I liked the blue-ish look from Wandavision a lot better!

Even as big of a Marvel fan as I am, I can’t say I know a lot about either character. With that said, I really like how you painted these and I’m glad to see some more Marvel stuff being shown off as well!

Thanks mate – the next run of posts will be Marvel-themed, so I hope you enjoy!

A stunning pair of models mate, the details on blind Al give her a lot of character even being a static sculpt, and the shading on white Vision is sublime.

Thanks Dave. White Vision has a lot of Pearlescent paints in his paintob which unfortunately dont show up in photos real well. Using Contrasts to shade him didn’t work out real well either since it can dry so thick I ended up literally peeling it off and then using my AKs veeeery thinned.
