Cthulhu: Death May Die – Hunting Horrors

Cthulhu: Death May Die - Hunting Horrors

Another pair of models finished in January that have been on the table for waaaaay too long – the pair of Hunting Horrors from the Cthulhu: Death May Die “Season 1” Core set.

I’ve been alternating between doing a little bit at a time on these with just letting them sit on the desk and ignoring them for the longest time – close to a year now, so now in January 2026 I’ve finally gotten the damned things completed.

Cthulhu: Death May Die - Hunting Horrors

I had a brief little run of trying to get the stuff on painting handles finished (there’s still a bunch of them to get done) so I can make some space for a newer set of models, and these were amongst the ones I’ve actually managed to complete. they also very much count towards Dave Stone’s Paint What You Got Challenge 25-26,

    • Thanks Dave. It’s not *quite* as bright in hand, but still stands out a lot. The official art doesn’t really feature the magenta, but a lot of people have painted theirs in a similar way and I liked the way it came out so I just followed the herd!

    • Thanks Wudu! I’m still fighting my natural instincts to get out another pair of DMD Monsters to work on and instead keep working on the other stuff I’m trying to clear from the desk – I tend to get more models of the same type out as soon as I finish something, which combined with constantly starting new and different things, leads to …madness!

  1. I love the sculpts and the color scheme here, mate! With Cthulhu minis, there’s something that really works with having a cold and sinister color and then something warm and unnatural. It really makes minis like this pop!

    • Thanks Jeff. Yeah, the official art has the carapace much mroe desaturated and grey with the wing membranes being basically the same kind of grey. A lot of online painters have added in the magenta to the wings in various degrees, and I think some also tinted the carapace towards a grey-green. I thought that combo looked particularly good so I went with it for my own models!
