Zombicide Survivors “Amy” (Pauley Perrette as Abigail ‘Abby’ Sciuto: NCIS) and “Wanda”

And now, finally, I’ve completed painting all of the survivors from the original Season 1, 1st Edition Zombicide Core Box set. (As well as their Zombvivor forms). Yes, both Amy and Wanda have been outstanding for many years, mostly because they were models that did not represent “easy wins” in terms of painting. I did initially get them ready to work on for Fembruary this year, but I didn’t manage to get properly started on them in time (aside from their bases). Let’s face it, though – we don’t need no steenking special excuses to paint our female models! Of course, Wanda didn’t get finished until April and Amy until early May…

I’ve just gone and checked out one of those “Zombicide Character Homage Lists” to see who they think Amy and Wanda might be based on – their call for Amy is the character of Abigail ‘Abby’ Sciuto, played by Pauley Perrette. Once I googled some pics of the “Abby” character played by Ms.Perrette, I have to admit it doesn’t seem incredibly far-fetched – thin Goth Chick, pigtails, and a specific kind of goth outfit.

So… yeah. Same outfit, top, studded collar and wristbands, mini-skirt, and there were also a couple of stocking pics on my image search, so I think I have to give it to the player-speculators as completely reasonable. on this one if I was happy to accept “Doug” as “Falling Down”. I mean, check out those platform buckle boots – they’re a near perfect match!

The stockings were an interesting exercise. I didn’t want to attempt to go full-fishnet, so i darkened the skin on both versions of her legs, and added in some faint cross-hatching to give a her legs a mesh stocking effect on a few peripheral locations such as the inner and outer thighs, the back of the knees and such.

I do have to admit, if I’d looked up the homage list before painting Amy, I’d have probably tried to match some of the NCIS outfits, but I’m sure Abby has more than one puffy-sleeve shirt and short skirt, so close enough…

Zombicide Survivor “Wanda”, Zombvivor, Zombivor

Wanda on the other hand also has an inspiration character listed, which is that of Wanda June, played by Ellen McElduff in the film Maximum Overdrive. On the one hand, the name is right, but on the other, the Maximum Overdrive version doesn’t seem to be a roller-waitress

With that said, I once again followed the character art, and even after seeing the possible film reference, I’m good with not worrying about it either – since it’s one that’s a bit more of a stretch.

Zombicide Survivor “Wanda”, Zombvivor, Zombivor

These two, well, the survivor versions are in the group of the oldest Zombicide models, while the Zombivor ones are just a couple of years more recent. While it’s good to finally get these two/four models finally painted and ready for our games, there are also the “Ultimate Survivor” versions I have to paint, as well as their redux versions from the Zombicide 2nd Edition Core set…

Fantasy Flight – Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-Earth Spreading War Heroes – Beorn (Beorning and Bear-Form) and Calaminth Took

Fantasy Flight - Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-Earth Spreading War Heroes - Beorn (Beorning and Bear-Form) and Calaminth Took

Today we have another pair of heroes from FFG’s Journeys in Middle Earth board game. Since the last few posts of models from this game have been from the Forces of Shadow, I felt it was time to do another couple of player characters.

Fantasy Flight - Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-Earth Spreading War Heroes - Beorn (Beorning and Bear-Form)

So first up we have the Chieftain of the Beornings himself, Beorn – in both his human and bear forms.

Beorn was one of those models that was hard to get started on, but then once I sat down and concentrated on working on him after the initial skin and fur coats, really almost painted himself in what turned out to be a pleasant morning and early afternoon where I got both forms completed.

There’s not a lot else to say here really, Naturalistic colours for both models, some pleasant blending, and they were done pretty simply and easily.

Fantasy Flight - Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-Earth Spreading War Heroes - Calaminth Took

The second character for today is another one of the many (created) Heroes from Journeys in Middle-Earth board game in the form of Calaminth Took, presumably a relative of Pippin. I guess she provides the game with the same role for hobbits that Tauriel provides for the Hobbit films since there – as I mentioned when I posted my painted Elena and Beravor there aren’t a whole lot of canon female characters in Tolkien’s writings, and even fewer when it comes to adventurer-protagonist-type characters. Calaminth was cleaned and primed as I’d initially hoped to get her painted for Fembuary this year, but it didn’t end up happening at the time, so as a model that seemed relatively straightforward to get painted, I’ve gotten her done now, bit by bit over a few days.

Of course, this same expansion includes artwork for a female Rohirrim with African features and an Asian Elf, but I’ll have more to say regarding my thoughts on those models once I have them painted.

As far as painting Calaminth, there’s really not a lot to go on, so I took inspiration from the character card (as seen above). A bit of a cross between sterotypical Ye Olde Matronly English Inkeeper and “Hobbit”. (Complete with a somehow-immaculate apron even in the midst of adventuring in the wilds!) Another model that was a bit hard to get started on but went pretty smoothly and quickly once I did start work. And that’s that! Now I need to decide whether to paint another pair of heroes, or do some more villains. I’ve got plenty of both all ready and prepped for painting…
