Cthulhu: Death May Die – S1 and S2 Investigators Complete!

Cthulhu: Death May Die - Season 1 and Season 2 Investigators

Firstly, I don’t know why even boxed board games now use the term “Season”. It’s not my fault! I wasn’t even there! It was Owen!

Regardless, my Cthulhu: Death May Die investigators from both the Season 1 and Season 2 boxed sets are finally complete, so I thought I’d show off a couple of group shots of the whole gang together.

It’s immensely satisfying to have finished even a sub-project like this for me, even with the couple of months delay when my painting paused recently.

With all of these figures being individuals, with no squads or zombie-versions or alter-egos or additional versions of any kind to paint, they were generally a lot easier to paint than many of the other models I’ve spent time on over the past few years.

As I guess is inevitable, some of the figures are better than others, and some of them were more enjoyable to paint than others. Even the worst of them do at least “spark joy” when looking at them, so I guess the time spent was worthwhile across the board here.

There’s a nice variety in these models in many ways, and CMON managed to split them 50-50 between male and female with a nice diversity of origin – more than two of these characters are from outside the U.S. – crazy I know!

Now all I need to do is paint up the baddies. Oh, and also the new Investigators I got in that other set that arrived recently…

Monthly Round-Up for March coming soon!

  1. They all look stunning mate, and a great accomplishment getting all of them finished (bar the new box that recently arrived), I look forward to seeing the new investigators and the remaining baddies, and what you do with them.

    • Thanks Dave! I’ve cleaned up and primed the newbies, and can’t remember if I’ve done their bases yet – but they’ll have to sit in the queue for a while first as I get rid of some more Marvel boys and girls over the next little bit (and more of those Toxic Zombies!)

  2. You know (well, hopefully you do by now), these are some of my favorite minis I’ve seen you paint up. Which is saying quite a bit, because I’ve just never been into the horror/cthulhu/pulp genre at all. The cloth work is especially phenomenal. I also really enjoyed the freehand bits you did here and there. That boardgame is really going to be something! 😃

    • Yeah, I was surprised at how much fn the game is as well as how much I enjoyed painting the figures. I skipped the kickstarter due to having little interest in the era or models as shown then (I always preferred the modern-day Cthulhu setting in RPGs), but after a bunch of high recommendations I picked up the game – and yeah – it’s actually very good!

And then the figures turned out to be enjoyable to paint as well!

      • Glad to hear you enjoyed painting them! They really do look amazing and are quite inspiring. I used to think painting minis with just regular clothes would be pretty boring. Now I’m just plain intimidated, haha!

  3. Congratulations, Cthulhu will be proud of you! 😁

Seeing the miniatures you painted little by little, we didn’t realize the number and variety of investigators. CMON has actually managed to conceive interesting and non-repetitive profiles. Will we get a photo of these characters in action on the boardgame in an upcoming game?
