Something slightly different today – yes, it’s more 3D printed tanks, but this time they’re for 40k & Horus Heresy’s tiny cousin, Legions Imperialis. Alpha Legion was chosen by Marouda, as she’s a fan of all the turquoises and teals, and that works for me as I also enjoy painting in these colours.
I’ve had these files on a hard drive for a few years now, so I’m not sure if they’re still out there, and since James can be a bit litigious and agressive with the old takedowns, I’m not going to point out where I got them from. If you know how to look for these things, then you know.
Anyway, earlier this year, right around the time that Battletech was tempting me again, I picked up a bunch of LI and AT for a “you’d have to be insane to refuse this deal” price, dropping me into a new scale – especially since I can easily proxy the 40k-ish tanks and infantry into the Mech game and Flippy can pick up a lot of the slack in various ways. For example, these tanks don’t currently “exist” or have rules in Legions Imperialis, but I figure in friendly games here we can just call them Baneblades or Shadowswords or something and have fun.
By this time you’ve already seen a fair few buildings and now you know why the drop into 6/8mm scale happened. Here’s a couple of the still-unpainted LI models I’ve been using for scale with those buildings – yeah the Glaive is a superheavy in the 30k/40k setting, so it be a big ol’ tank.
Three more tanks for Dave Stone’s Season of Scenery ’25. We haven’t heard from Dave in a couple of weeks now, so here’s hoping that treatment is going well, his general health is improving and he’s starting to feel a touch better.

Oooh, these are very nice! 🙂 I like the colour scheme as well! Gotta just love superheavy tanks!

Thanks John! I think they’ll be more “weighty” once I get some more regular-sized tanks and infantry painted to show alongside them. 🙂

Thanks Alex. If things go well I may even finish some more of them before the heat death of the universe!

Cool tanks. ” I figure in friendly games here we can just call them Baneblades or Shadowswords or something and have fun.” I wish more people were down to just have fun

Alpha’s Legion’s paint scheme seems to really work well on vehicles as these look very nice. I would imagine these were a nice change of pace from the more camo-centric tanks you’ve been working on too.

Thanks mate. I’ve had plans to paint some Alphas in normal scale for years, but not having played any 40k for ages and by extension not having painted much 40k for an extended period, nothing has actually happened there, so funnily enough they started with 3d printed tanks for a game I didn’t even own last year!

Great choice Marouda these guys have come up so well, even though I love these colours I would baulk at painting mine that way, they may look a wee bit weird on my WWII dios. 😉👍🏻

Thanks Pat! In a lot of ways they’re almost closer to schemes you might find on aircraft. That’s certainly true for some of the other stuff I’ll have to show soon!

A lot of the Heresy stuff is often depicted with metallic troop armour and armoured vehicles – I quite like the look myself!
