3D Print: Objective Marker Crates by Terrain4Print

Alright – today we have some more models, albeit some 3D-printed ones. These models are freebies from Terrain4print listed as “Scifi crates for my space dwarf kickstarter” and they can be found at Makerworld, Cults3D, Printables, Thingiverse (and maybe some other places, too!)

They’re set up as prints to represent markers “numbered” from 1, through to 6 – defined by the number of crates on each base. Since I’m on a bit of a Star Wars Legion-themed kick at the moment, I enlarged them slightly to have 50mm bases rather than 40k-oriented 40mm ones as the current POI size for Legion 2nd edition is 50mm bases.

I painted these in a kind of blue-green-grey, based on the hard armour pieces worn by Imperial Army troopers in shows like Andor and General Veers in Empire Strikes Back – and easily base coated using Citadel’s Mechanicus Standard Grey spray paint that bears little resemblance to the pots of paint that share the same name but is quite close to AK’s Anthracite Grey, which allowed me to touch them up. Tarps were done in AK’s German Field Grey that again I’ll be sharing with Imperial Uniforms, so there will be some colour theme consistency once I have some ready for the tabletop.

The 3mf file from Makerworld also featured an upsized version of one of the crates and without the integrated base. I liked this idea, so I sized a couple of other pieces up in the same way to give a bit more variety, as well as the old “mirror” trick. As you can see here, both sizes should work well in a variety of settings.

Really a very nice set of crates that can be used for objective markers or just a nice bit of scatter. Nice “background prints” when you want to keep the machine going but don’t really have anything specific you want to run, and they painted up nice and easily as well when I got around to them!

As a little addendum – Terrain4Print has a Tribes (kind of like a Patreon) over on MMF that’s only US$2/month for his files. I’ve just joined it and if you’re interested in some pretty nice terrain at a very affordable cost, you may be interested in checking it out. I’ve actually just subbed to it as I type this post as I see he’s active again (apparently he took a break for awhile sometime until recently). he doesn’t know I’m posting this and I’ve never communicated with him aside from leaving print photos and reviews – again, as I’ve been typing this post.

And a third pair of CMON’s Marvel Zombies bystanders in a row – that’s right, I just went on a bit of a run with these as a nice kind of simple palette cleanser models. Today we have the comics version of Ben Urich as well as Jimmy Woo. Jimmy here is different from the MCU version due to his blue-grey suit, while Ben Urich here is a little more different to his remixed version.

These two look like they’d make a decent investigative team. A shame that these models are just cannon fodder tokens in the Marvel Zombies game, which is why Marouda and I like to create custom cards to use them as survivors in the more general Zombicide games. We were also working on some house rules to crossover the Superheroes and the regular Zombicide survivors, though we’ll need to get back to playing Zombicide to get some more games in.
