And here’s the unit that goes with yesterday’s Skaven hero for the AoS challenge. As with the hero model, these models were absolute cunts to paint and really not fun at all. They’ve butted up against a ton of Neglected Model and Unit Challenge months over the past year, with no success. As I said in yesterday’s post, the fur+skin style is the opposite of enjoyable to paint, so I hope I don’t come across any more of this generation of metal skaven models in my box’o’skaven, even if I’m actually pretty satisfied with the final product.
Fist-bump to Wudugast as well here – his relentless work in painting and sharing his own skaven has been the biggest thing causing the constant niggle to keep on trying to get these done. And finally(!) – I got there. Thanks for the inspiration, mate!
Group shot to conclude! No more for Alex’ AoS challenge this month unfortunately (despite my best plans), and the Round-Ups will be delayed a little this month. More on that later, though. (I’m typing this on Saturday evening).
Monday Edit – Also, another couple of submissions for Monster March just need photographing, then they’ll be going up in the next couple of days!
Well done on these, a hard won victory but a damn fine result! A silk purse from a sow’s indeed 🙂

Thanks mate – I count these amongst the figures that I hated painting, but now that they’re finished, I quite like them. Nice when that happens. Though I’ve got no desire to paint any more of them!

They look fantastic, especially like the dirty marks on the robes adding to the filthy look of them. Fingers crossed there’s no more in the box for you to find !

Thanks! I think a bit of filth is pretty much a prerequisite when painting almost any Skaven. There’s a ton more skaven there, but hopefully no more of this line!

Looking good mate, and thank you for dropping the ‘C’ bomb – I have reason to deploy it myself in my next post, so I’m glad the precedent has been set 🙂

haha no problem, Alex. It’s actually not considered as “bad” a word here in Australia as it is in places like the US, and can even be used in an affectionate way to a friend, i.e.: “you silly cunt!” Given the RL shit going down here right now, my filter is a bit thinner. Or I have considerably fewer fucks to give about decorum, at the very least! More about that later when there’s more of an outcome though – for now the mask stays on and the talk remains about toy soldiers!
Looking forward to your upcoming cunts!

I like ’em! Obviously your descriptive choice reflects how much enjoyment you didn’t get from painting this lot, but they’re done and they look great! If everything goes to plan I’ve got some yetis to paint at some point for VSF games and I think they have a similar fur/flesh finish – lucky me! 😉

The most fun parts of the painting process were spraying them black to start, and spraying them with varnish at the end. Everything in the middle was far less enjoyable!
Enjoy your Yetis!

Nice work- oddly, given how fond I am of them, I’ve never painted any Skaven.
Cheers,
Pete.

I recommend starting with some of the newer plastics, or the Jes Goodwin original metal line. Skip the middle models, like these ones!

Will look for some of the new plastics then- 10-15 will be enough to skirmish with.
Cheers,
Pete.

Definately!
The Shadespire gang is a pretty good choice to consider as well.

You can save a little bit by getting them without the rules and cards, but with them, you have a group you can play in that game as well as any other skirmish. That plus pretty much any unit box of your choice (or some Island of Blood models off eBay) and you’re golden.
