Another of those quick and dirty D&D model posts today – A trio of monsters from the Temple of Elemental Evil Adventure Boardgame, which is chronologically the next in the series after the Drizzt box. I’d originally planned to hold off on posting these so I could get a second trio of models in here, but as it happens I simply don’t have any other ToEE monster models that will be anywhere near completed in May, so the post will just have to be pushed out and the next monster models will get their own posts in (probably) June when they’re done.
One sculpt by three, pretty simple models. This sculpt was also used in prepainted form for a D&D Attack Wing Hobgoblin expansion as well as in the Dungeon Command Tyranny of Goblins set of prepaints. I skipped the purply-orange armour of those prepainted models and just went for worn steel on mine. Similarly I eschewed the darker skin used in the prepaints and went for the classic GW-ish “Hobgoblin Orange” type of flesh. Particularly since I’ve already given my previous D&D Orcs a ruddy brown Uruk-Hai inspired flesh tone and wanted these guys to be a little distinct.

For simple models these turned out really well, and I think the worn steel works really well on these models.

Thanks Dave. They were on the good side of these sculpts as they were very quick and easy to paint and don’t look like total dogshit! 😅

Nicely done mate – I do like my hobgobs to be proper hobgoborange 😁👍

That’s the very spirit I was channelling! 😄

Nice band of Hobgoglins and I like the orange skin. I think they have had a reddish skin in D&D for awhile, but it’s hard to say with artists constantly changing things up and no real standard for most of their monsters.

Yeah, I’m just from the era where you say “Hobgoblin” and I associate it with “Orange”. Hobgoblin orange was one of my first sets of Citadel paints which were my first acrylics. Round pot (like the current CDA or P3) and Silver label. So just like in my Chaos Dwarf BB team, I’m probably always going to paint Hobgobs in orangish tones! 😀

Thanks John! Luckily they lend themselves very much to that style and scheme! 😀

These came out well, mate. I’d imagine they didn’t take too terribly long to finish either which is always a plus too.
