February 2024 Monthly Round-Up + “Paint What You Got” 2024 Challenge Round-Up

Somehow we’ve already passed the end of February and are starting to hurtle through March. Almost unbelievable, right? Anyway, here’s the very focused selection of models that I managed to complete this past month!

Yep, I’m definitely so much closer to getting that one game/faction that I want to play fully painted with such a tight focus.

Terrible jokes aside, after a slow start in late January, Feb was when I really did start painting models regularly again, and my output is usually about as focused as a bag of dropped marbles, though there are at least a couple of themes running through these models – essentially militia and Zombies/Zombicide. And a couple of HeroQuest models for extra variety …along with a giant cartoon duck.

Fembruary was also a thing I painted towards this year, with a few Zombicide Survivors and yet even more zombies fitting the category. As with any painting challenge, I never manage to finish all of the models I’d have liked to, so we’ll see some Fembruary latecomers in the coming days…

In the end, I completed a total of 35 models in February. Added to the 7 other Zombies painted in January and we have 42 models for 2024 so far. They do all count towards Dave Stone’s just-concluded Paint Whatchoogot Challenge for 23-4. (See below for the rest!)

    • Thanks mate! I WISH!

I’ve got several KoW armies on display in the war room, even though I havent’t played in an age, as well as some of the bigger beasties, some 40k marines and bits and pieces here and there. I’ve got most of the Zombicide survivors out since we were playing with them recently-ish as well.

The vast majority of them are in an endless series of cases and foam carry cases. I’m ashamed to say that there’s a fair few figures that I only know roughly where they are rather than exactly, though I’ve started labelling better in the past year or so with tags on the cases.

I’ll get some photos up at some stage, and share what’s out in a post. 🙂

      • I’m nowhere near your collection, but I find it’s so damned easy to lose them too. I made a custom mini for our game, then spent weeks looking for him. Finally gave up, thinking I had gone mental and never really converted the mini after all. Yesterday found him on the top of a bin, that I swear I went through twice! 🤬🤬🤬

      • @Faust – that’s just a black hole. I have them here all too frequently as well where a thing goes missing, you check all of the places, and then it just appears in a place that you checked thrice!

I’ll have to get some more figure cases for these Zombicide survivors as I found that my extra-large case with Zombicide figures is overflowingly full earlier today.

@IRO – well, in general terms I do at least! 😮

  1. With a late start mate, you have got a serious amount done, and all to your usual excellent quality as well. Hopefully the rest of the year will be good for you.

    • Thanks Dave, I’m woindering if I’ll have the smae burnout as usual in November, as part of my my role at work has shifted somewhat this year to something that looks like it’ll have the same overall amount of work but over a longer period but without the extra-intense period and the respite at the end… It’ll be interesting to see how that pans out. 😮

  2. Personally, I like seeing you bounce around to all kinds of different minis. That’s the only way I can paint and so its validation that variety matters in our hobby 🙂 With that said, I think this month was another solid output and the LOTR minis were a nice surprise!

    • Thanks mate! With so many minis to get through, it’s a matter of doing whatever’s needed to keep it interesting (and to get through the less interesting ones!)

I need to get through the rest of those two LotR sets (and the Frateris) but there’s at least another dozen models I want to get out of the way first!

  3. Congrats for the result: a very crowded overall photo! It lacks big pieces, but you make up for it with the number of miniatures.

It’s a shame that all of this will remain mostly hidden from the eyes, but there is never enough space – unless you turn the house into a museum… 😁

    • That would be the ideal of course, though I suspect it might require a lottery win of some description 😅
I may try to get some larger models finished this month. Usually Swordmaster runs Monster March and I get a few done but before I get to any of those I have a few more regular sized models I want to complete and move off the desk!
