Another pair of models from the Marvel Zombies Kickstarter haul today. We have Jessica Jones from the Defenders, also known from the Netflix series (that I haven’t yet watched) and Callisto from the X-Men rogues gallery. Jessica is a hero-suvivor with no Zombie counterpart, and Callisto is a “Bystander”, so effectively a hybrid of an NPC and a piece of gear – in her case, allowing her rescurer to ignore the usual targeting priority rules. I know very little about Jessica, except that she’s really tough and/or strong because… reasons? Like a female Luke Cage? I could look it up, I guess, or watch the show. Probably easier to let Faust and Kuribo weigh in with their knowlege of both characters instead! 😀
Callisto I know only a little more about. I’ve read some X-Men comics with her in them in the past and I do recall that she’s the leader of the Morlocks, a group of originally-named (mutants?) who live underground. I seem to feel like she’s a frenemy of the X-Men – but I guess that applies to pretty much everyone who they’re crossed paths with over the years, from Magneto, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, White Queen, Sabretooth…. have any of their mortal enemies also not been members of the various X-clans?
Painting this pair was pretty straightforward, though Jessica’s over-involved base made her take longer than she really should have. I think she’s also standing over a grate that is trying to do a Marilyn Monroe with her leather jacket, which I lined with red to add a little colour to what would have otherwise been quite a drab figure. She certainly kicks arse in the game, though!

Great work on both mate, you’ve given them a lot of character with your painting on them.
I believe Jessica got her powers from an experiment when she was a child, but I could be wrong on that.
It’s funny how they use the name Morlocks as those were originally the creatures that lived underground in H.G. Wells “The Time Machine”

Ah yes – I was going to mention that but then I forgot to when actually typing up the post. That and the Necromunda Gang the “Orlocks” also take their name from the H.G. Wells novel, but with slightly(?) more nuance, early-90’s GW style!
Ah! So Jessica was injected with V!

Yep, that’s where the writer got their group name. Ingenious! 😉

Its been a while since I’ve seen Callisto! She was in the X-Men cartoon from the 90’s but she never made it to any of the X-Men movies, I don’t think.
When it comes to Jessica Jones, she is a fantastic character, much more worthy of your attention than Iron Fist, in my humble opinion. My wife and I watched about half of the first season of Jessica Jones and we liked it but didn’t finish it for some reason. Alias by Brian Michael Bendis is an excellent comic series and the best way to experience the character, I would argue. Faust will probably argue you with me on that because he doesn’t like that writer as much as I do, but you shouldn’t definitely listen to me on this 😀
Both of the miniatures look very nice and are great additions to your budding Marvel collection!

Haha…here goes! I’d definitely argue for Iron Fist over Jessica Jones! Though totally the opposite when it comes to the Netflix shows! Iron Fist was one of the worst of those shows, and probably doomed the character from ever appearing in the MCU anytime soon. Jessica and DD were the best of those shows. Mainly because of the acting, fight choreography (DD), and story.
Comics wise, I have heard Alias is good. Though I’ve also heard it’s a bit of a mess, and the show cleans it up. I tried to read part of it, and the writer, Bendis, does his regular disregard of anything that has happened in the past. Originally he was going to shoehorn Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew) into the story/character he had in mind. Including making her a porn actress. Yea, the same hero who has appeared in children’s cartoons. Thank god someone at Marvel had the sense to talk him out of that one. Instead he made a ‘new character’ named “Jessica…Jones”. Retconned her into the Marvel universe, even going so far as to say she appeared in Amazing Fantasy #15 (first issue of Spidey) and saying she was a classmate of Peter’s. See, she’s super cool, right?! I think if you haven’t any attachments to Marvel comics history (like I do), and just jumped on, the story is likely to appeal more. But again, I don’t think the character is very consistent overall, and I don’t see the value there. I know other people who have also said that the Netflix show took the premise and made it better. So, that’s really where I would start.
And yep, you know about as much about Callisto as I do. Storm and her fought for the leadership of the Morlocks. That’s when Storm was sporting the Mohawk look, having become their leader. Callisto has worked with the X-Men in the past, but also against them. More often with them, than against them. Her name also comes from Greek mythology. Powers wise, she doesn’t seem like anything special, and I’ve never really understood the character. She’s basically a stronger, faster human, good with knives, and some enhanced senses. But not on the level of Captain America or anything, or probably most heroes. So….B-list, C-list…?

We certainly didn’t leave any middle ground! He’s got to pick amongst friends and whoever he doesn’t pick is going to be furious! 😀

Careful, careful, careful….But is it the green wire or the red wire?!?!?

Very cool – I did watch JJ ages ago but have forgotten everything about it – lost somewhere in the big blobby Marvel bit of my brain. As a result, I know bugger all about either character, but they certainly look the part mate 😁

Thanks Alex. A lot of the MCU stuff just turned into CGI memory mush after awhile, didn’t it? 😀

it surely did… shame really!

Yup. When quality writing slowly turns into overly formulaic cgi mush, that’s what happens…

They both look good thanks to your clothing work once again! 🙂
I honestly, don’t like Jessica’s pose, but I forgot that in the comics she can fly. So maybe she’s landing or getting ready to take off? In the Netflix show, she’s just invulnerable and somewhat strong too. Way cooler than in the comic! 😉

Thank you!
I guess that makes sense for the model’s pose – so in the comics she’s basically Superman sans eye beams, frost breath and kryptonite then?

Don’t forget the vulnerability to Magic! 😉
