Another quick and simple one today – a Warhammer Fantasy Battle Chaos warhound from the final set of sculpts GW had on sale before they transitioned into the plastic range. In my opinion these were the best of the three metal ranges that they had over the years, over both the nostalgic-but-basic originals and then Trish Carden’s ones that weren’t bad but looked like everything else she’s ever sculpted with large silly scales added randomly all over them…
I do have several more of these to paint, but some of them arrived (from eBay) missing legs and still need assembly and repair, so… when it happens. This one I had for years before that, possibly as a random purchase from a blister pack.
This model is one that I started earlier in the year but then sat around on the desk since. I asked Marouda to pick a model for me to complete when she came out of isolation and this was one of the two that she selected. The other… well, it’s not yet finished, but soon!
Apologies to the other bloggers in the community on not keeping up with your blogs or my own comments recently, it’s been a wild ride here lately and will continue to be so until my surgery in a few weeks when I have an enforced 2 weeks off work. No idea how functional I’ll be for those two weeks, but I’m hoping to have enough painkillers so I’m feeling okay without being feeling doped up to the eyeballs so I can try some blog-catch-ups by then!

Excellent work on this classic Chaos hound mate, it was my favourite release of theirs as well.
Hope the surgery goes well, and the recovery is quick and relatively painless.

Thanks Dave! That’s the hope for it. Still a few weeks to go before I go in, just they’ll be busy ones as I get work ready for 2 weeks of operating without me – so naturally I have to prepare for that in my own time while still doing my regular job… 😮

Thanks Dave. I’ll write more about it once we get closer. In the meantime I’m just busy and falling even further behind everyone’s blogs! (and my own comments!)

Best wishes on the surgery. Been there done that – but found a way to paint as a painkiller. Btw, this beast is awesome AND metal! Nicely done.

Thanks Mark. Just over 3 weeks before it happens. Hoping the recovery pain isn’t too bad so I can spend a lot of time painting. If it goes well, I’ve got a whole batch of 30+year old metals I want to get painted in October…

30 year and older metals – yes!

Very nice! I like those old hounds and I agree, probably the best ones they’ve done. Good luck with the surgery, hope it goes well.

I hope the surgery goes as well as it can and these are definitely classic sculpts. The design adds something to what would otherwise be a somewhat boring and well-trodden subject. You did a great job painting it up too of course! 🙂

Thanks mate. I really like this particular run of hounds. Shame in a lot of ways that “oldhammer” took off in pouplarity so much in recent years as for awhile you could pick up so many cool old models for a song but now it’s hobby speculator city with anything old and metal.

Agreed and I guess we should hope that minis like this come back into production for The Old World! I have no idea how likely that is but it seems like there’s at least an outside chance.

I’m hopeful that there will be some cool WHFB flair to the TOW models, though they’re definiately doing a bit of that with several of the newer AoS ranges – Kruelboyz are pre-Kev Adams orcs and the new Cities of Sigmar models look pretty much like Empire cranked further into Warhammer than Holy Roman….

Superb- I love how natural and realistic the work you did on the mouthj came out. An odd thing to say for a chaos mini but you know what I mean.
Hope the surgery goes well.
Cheers,
Pete.

Thanks Pete! The mouth was an interesting one since the sculpt has no depth to the mouth, so I had to try and fake it with darker players of red/black. Very happy to hear that I pulled it off! 🙂
