Almost there now – we’re in the final stretch! Today we have the Kickstarter exclusive (so they wouldn’t get sued for selling them at retail) models for Zombicide that are absolutely not in any way based on Leonard and Penny from sitcom The Big Bang Theory.
Fun fact – Leonard the BBT character was named after Leonard Nimoy while Leonard the Cat was not named after either the Star Trek actor nor the Big Bang Theory Character. In fact, neither Marouda nor myself had never seen a single episode of BBT at the point in time when we got Baby Leonard.
A pretty straightforward model in civvies. I matched the scheme to clothing worn by Leonard in the show. It’s not a particularly great sculpt and the face is pretty board game model mushy, but it does the job.
I based Penny’s outfit colours on the character card. It seems pretty close if not accurate to the sort of stuff that she wore in the first couple of seasons of the show, before the show got especially popular and Kaley Couco in turn got enough clout to tell the producers that she would like to wear slightly more clothes please and thank you very much.
These two can join Not-Howard, painted way back in …2015 (has it been THAT long???) 😲 I’ve still got Raj, Bernadette and Amy Farrah Fowler to paint at some point. The prices for Zombicide Not-Sheldon Cooper are insane, so I see a 3D printed proxy being my solution there – could be a fun few themed games running the whole core cast through some missions.
Just one more post (tomorrow) before the December Round-Up/2022 Reflection post – then I can show you all what I’ve been painting and working on this month!
Wonderful work on both mate, and very fitting of the characters, never properly watched an episode, but walked in on the wife watching them from time to time, hope you can find a 3D print easily enough.

Thanks Dave. It’s funny enough but in a “turn your brain off and spot the geek references” way. It’s no Always Sunny but an amusing enough thing to have on in the background. Not that I’ve seen an episode in about 10 years now… 😀

We too have never seen a single episode of BBT, although through the trailers we have learned to recognize the faces of the characters. And it’s not bad to finally see these nerds going ballistic and picking up an axe or a gun for their falling down…
You did a great job improving sculptures which, especially for Leonard, seem to try the painter’s patience a bit.
At this point you have to tell us what was the source of inspiration for your cat’s name!

Haha thank you!
As for the source of Leonard’s name – he was originally named “Iggy” for about half a day – after James Osterberg (Iggy Pop), but as much as I love Iggy – it just didn’t sit right.
I wanted something a bit more …noble for him – and then the name literally just popped into my head “Leonard”.
And that was that!

Oh these are just so spot on! 🙂 I am a big BBT fan although have got well behind with them! And you’ve avoided the most important point raised in your post – just how did Leonard The Cat get his name?

Thanks John! I watched (I think) all of the first 5? 6? 7? 8? seasons, but then in the long break betweenm them got out of the habit and just never picked up watching them again. I watch a lot less TV these days (even including streaming/on demand) so I’d like to rewatch and see them one day, I’m not sure if I ever will get around to it anymore…
And the Leonard question is answered in the reply above! 🙂

I think I’m in the same boat as you with TV – I’ll no doubt pick stuff up at some point when I feel like it! As for pet names, Barbara chooses them for ours and she’s pretty good at it!

Yeah, there’s an endless backlog of stuff I want to watch, things I missed, newer things and then going back to watch older shows – but time doing things tends to win over time watching TV.
Watching an update on the news, I think I’m going to have to try to photoshop Leonard into the commander’s hatch of a Leopard tank now! 😉

I have never really watched Big Bang Theory either but I did recognize the actors and the characters they represent straight away thanks your top-notch painting. I agree with Rodor and John above that if it isn’t Leonard Nimoy or Leonard from this show who inspired your cat’s name, who could it be? Probably Leonardo, the Ninja Turtle! 😉

Thanks mate! 🙂
Leonard’s name origin is in the reply to Rodor’s post above!

That was more spontaneous than I expected but you picked a good name, I would say! 🙂

The likeness is really nicely done. The cloth work turned out great and the denim is simply amazing. Since Penny is showing the most skin, you can really see the difference between the skin tones of Zombie and Human. Great job all around! 😃

Thanks mate – Reaper’s Blue Denim paint is the secret to my denim – and then highlighting with light blue greys.
I’ve been working through a lot of Zombie flesh tones lately, so glad you picked it up. I try to make it a little different from the base and then add some extra discolouration.

I still haven’t been able to find “Denim” in the Reaper line. I’m guessing it has a different name or it’s one of them that’s been discontinued? They make a number of ‘seasonal’ paints that can be tough to track down if you don’t snatch them up when released.

Howard is painted (see link in post), I don’t have Sheldon (need to buy/print the STL) and the others are in a tub under my desk – so coming soon(ish?)

Nice work. Even I recognised them and I’m not a fan of the show.
Cheers,
Pete.

They have worked out superb. Capture the essence of the character nicely!

Thank you, Guru! Good to see that the sculpt and paint have combined to make them recognisable.

As you say not the best sculpts of Leonard and Penny, but you’ve done a bang-up (sorry) job on their painting. 😁
Cheers Roger.

Saw these a week back and was impressed as usual. Glad to read about the Reaper denim paint, going to add that to my horde though won’t need it for a bit with my current Ozz stuff (just collecting paints I guess). I do have a question that perhaps you don’t know the answer to, but why if they are zombies do they continue to carry their weapons?

Thanks Mark! I need to get myself a spare or two of that paint myself but Reaper’s stuff isn’t easy to get hold of here. Last time I saw it for sale it was part of a triad set with two other paints I wasn’t in need of.
These particular zombies are “zombvivors” so the story behind them is that they’re survivors with a bit of their old consciousness still there – therefore they can be used as player characters or as smarter opponents, depending on which of the extra rules you’re using…
