Another of the community’s painting challenges out there is something called Monster March. It, rather unsurprisingly deals with the painting of Monsters during – get this – the month of March!
I asked Swordmaster, who is running the challenge if it would be okay if instead of starting from scratch I could try to finish off a pair of models I’ve already started. He kindly said that it would be fine, and so I selected two (Neglected!) models that have been sitting around here, part-painted for literally years. Quite a few in one case!
The Dracoliche comes from the Dungeons & Dragons: Castle Ravenloft Boardgame, though I’ve also puttied up a wargaming base for it to slot into. It’s been part-painted for quite a few years. The second model is Reaper’s Colossal Skeleton from the Bones line of models, specifically their first Kickstarter. I’m hopeful that Monster March can Motivate Me to get both of these damned things done and out of my way. I’ve also got another Monster who I started Months ago that I’d like to get completed as well, but we’ll see…
Oh cool, I have some of those D&D boardgames. I bet those will turn out really nice. Do you prime them beforehand? The plastic seems a little different than most minis.

Yeah, I generally prime them with spray beforehand, though I’ve also used really-watered-down Liquid Greenstuff. There are a bunch of painted models in the Dungeons & Dragons Monsters category on the sidebar. Well, there would be if not for Photobucket. I’ll fix some of those posts up now. Here’s one I just repaired with some Ashardalon models.

The plastic is PVC, which we tend to call “Boardgame plastic” as opposed to normal sprued stuff, which is HIPS, or High-Impact Polystyrene. Plastic cement also doesn’t work well (or at all) on PVC, so superglue is needed there, for example.

Wow, those painted up nice. You do amazing work on fur. The cave bear is my fave of those two.

Thank you – if you go to the “Dungeons and Dragons Monsters” category on the sidebar, I’ve now repaired all of those posts. They’re a mix of Reaper and Official D&D models from those boardgames.

Thanks mate – anything to keep myself busy and motivated to finish more models.

Oooh, I like those mate, they’d look great in my undead army, (he said, edging slowly towards ebay)… Looking forward to seeing ’em painted!

The Bones Giant is nicely bones-priced. The Dracoliche is probably a repurposed prepaint, though the full board game can often be found on sale and is a simple but fun dungeon bash. Friendly for the young-uns as well as it happens…
