Another model from the depths of time that are known as the mid-1990’s today – we have the third of the Not-Skaven Models previewed in my AK Interactive Primer Review post alongside the Tim Prow Pair.
I really like this sculpt, though I did get totally blocked for a couple of months by the difficulty of figuring out a colour scheme for him. Specifically, I could not figure out how to paint his robe. Eventually, I got to a knuckle down point and was still struggling when inspiration came – one night after finishing up with painting and such, I thought to have a look through the Skaven Battletome for AoS, and saw this deep green scheme on some model, and after seeing it, I knew what to do. The next day, his skirt was painted, and a day or two later the model was finally complete! I even snuck a little touch of Wudagast Yellow onto the model.
Here’s the “finished” shot of the three not-Skaven. The counterpoint to the primed shot of the three from my AK Interactive Post. Done!
My next rats will be the pair from Silver Tower. After that, I plan to Bring the Lead Out again!
Great looking models mate, and expertly put into colour in your usual manner

Thank you, Dave. This one took a lot longer to work out the scheme, but I’m super happy with how he came out.

That really is a great green for the robe, and very nicely spattered and worn as well.
Even for the times, that’s a pretty clunky “sword”, tho. Looks like it’d be a couple of inches thick!

Yeah. It’s like part sword, part bludgeon! Still, no risk of it breaking accidentally 🤣

These guys look great! Glad your inspiration came to you in the end. 🙂

I was sort of trying not to take inspiration from official schemes. It didn’t actually matter, since it’s just the colour of a swatch of cloth. What a dumbarse! 😉

That rat has fantastic hair! Cool model overall, he looks a bit more stylish than your average skaven, and as ever you’ve done a great job on him.

His clan has access to the experimental Skyre blowdryers!

Cracking job mate – he’s a big’un! He’d have to be to swing that hunk of a sword around 😉

Yeah, he counts as a champion of some description in that AoS warband monthly thing (when I get back to it more proper-like). He might end up making an appearance in WarCry!?

Very nice figures mate but that’s what we all come to expect! Talking of Jewel of July as I am going to be away here is my link for the round up.

Thanks mate. That link didn’t work though?
And if you could put it in the below linked post’s comments, I’m much less likely to miss it when I’m compiling…

Another great rat! The skin and tail both have excellent paint colors. Inspiring stuff as always and a really cool sculpt as well 🙂

Thanks Kuribo – that’s the biggest difference between a sculpt that you love and one you hate. Even though working out the scheme for this guy took forever, painting it was almost pure pleasure compared to the Dark Stone Brutes – and it shows in the results!

Well said and I’ve run into this quite a bit in my painting career too. If you find a mini you enjoy painting, the results are almost always better for it 🙂

I really love the early 90-ish WFB/HeroQuest look of the model — except for the sword, though: That’s the part where the wheels come off the cart for me.
Great painting, however! As expected 😉

I’lllet you in on a little secret – I have another of this sculpt that I’ll do something with in the future. 😉 Just that plastic weapons being waved around on otherwise-metal models can present a bit of a structural snappy risk, so I haven’t worked out a solution (or design direction)…

Echo previous comments. Love the yellow as well. Nice model to be sure, but you really brought it to life!

Thanks Mark. It’s almost like a game to see where I can sneak that touch of yellow in now.

Thanks Pat. They’re going to be a slow burn – just 1-3 on the go at a time, so they (hopefully) won’t get bogged down like so many other things tend to…
