And here’s the other half of the AI Ground Assets box, to go alongside (against!) the Imperials from a week or so ago. These ones didn’t get hit by the Contrast paints, instead they had a much more traditional method of painting.
Pretty simple really, spray black, spray dark metal, drybrush lighter metal, black wash, brown wash, rust wash. Pick out some bits in different metals and the odd greenish wash where applicable. Then pick out panels in bone, highlight them by streaking over with an off-white, carefully applied(!) rust wash to stain the white panels, then a streaky drybrush of silver. Done!
I went with the white/bone rather than a red or different colour as it fits in more with the desert-y schemes I’ve used for my Orks to date, and a bit of a dual Rynn’s World/Armageddon connection that I plan to expand on further with my models.
As far as me completing a new box set of new figures, I should point out that there’s still two sets of tokens (14 in total, I think) that are lagged out at the moment, and I think I’ve even lost one. So no fear on me completyely completing an entire new kit/box too quickly! 😉
Once I (find and) complete them, I’ll do the full box set group shot. Otherwise they might just end up in the monthly round-up. When I get to it, that is.. I still haven’t done my own for the last couple of months..
Lovely work. The bone looks really good.
Cheers,
Pete.

Thanks Pete. I wanted to keep it simple but reminiscent of my Warboss’ armour in particular, though keeping it a bit brighter for the exaggeration needed for a bunch of teeny tiny panels..

I have to echo Pete – the rust staining on the white panels is just . . . *air kiss*.

Thanks! The paints and materials we have at our disposal these days compared to even a decade ago make it so easy.

These look great! I’m seeing each of these sculpts for the first time and I like how Ork-y everything looks. You did a great job conveying the rust and dirt that make it look suitable for the greenskins. It is impressive how quickly you’re knocking this box out. If I didn’t know better, I’d say you could knock it out within a month’s time (along with some other minis along the way) 🙂

Haha thanks. All that’s left are the tokens. I’ll have to force myself to do those though, as they’re just completely uninteresting. I’m sure I could get them done over the course of a single day if I manage to put my mind to them, though.

Great stuff – allow me to be another voice praising the rust stains on the white, that’s just perfect. Recipe?

Uh.. Vallejo GC Bonewhite (or equivalent) followed by a streaky application of Vallego GC Off White 72.101. Then Vallejo Model Wash Rust 76.506 carefully messily applied, and a bit of Vallejo Plate Mail Metal Primer 70.628 flecked in on the edges followed by a smaller amount of AP Plate Mail Metal flecked in.

Cheers! I’m terrible at keeping track of recipes, it’s always something I dread being asked (or having to remember for myself!) so cheers for extracting it from the old grey matter for me 🙂

Welcome, Wudu. I’m lucky that a lot of the ones I have trouble with end up posted on here!

Great work on all this terrain, the only thing I would change is the muzzle barrels as they look too clean, I’d probably black wash or black drybrush over them

Good spot. I forgot to do that for the cannon barrels. I did remember it for the Imperial side’s flak, though. I’ll get it done!

I do like them! I think that look is spot on for a desert-type world and I like the balance between metal, “bone” and rust! I’ve started to blather – I could just have said they look great! 🙂
