Another quick bit from the Archon Studios “Ramparts” terrain Kickstarter – a little plastic Altar from the extras package of the “Kazumi” style. These came alongside the stairs that I painted recently, and as such, I do have another pair of these sitting to one side. I didn’t paint all three because, well, how many altars do you need at once? And more pertinantly, it’s very much the kind of small piece that’s perfect for incorporating into larger terrain pieces. So I’ve kept them aside for that very purpose in the future. It was pretty smooth, so I used the Liquid Greenstuff trick to give it just a little bit of texture, and painted it up quick and easy, with a little bit of both dirt and moss/mold as well as some faded bloodstains in the central channels. Reiksgard Knight provides us with scale, and we’re done!
Very nice! Looks like a bit of blood stain in the grooves on the top?
Ive been wondering, if you were to make these a sandstone/Aztec like altar, what would you use?

Yep, that’s the plan. I used some rusty reds to give that impression. My standard “sandstone” method is pretty much the same way I paint bone – starts with Vallejo Bonewhite, wash with Vallejo GC Leather Brown/Citadel XV-88, depending on how dark some of the depths are, maybe some VGC Scorched Brown – then drybrush back up with Bonewhite, then VGC Elfic Flesh, then VGC Offwhite.
There are a bunch of the colours and alternatives shown here.

Thanks man, great tutorial as well. Will likely try that method once I get to my skeletons. 😃

Neat! 🙂 Good idea keeping the others to incorporate into a larger piece of scenery!

Yeah, I have some larger kits awaiting assembly, and I think these could work with those pretty well.

A simple piece of terrain for an easy painting win I guess.
Cheers,
Pete.

Yeah, a quick one. I’d hoped to have some more from the same range to post alongside, but I didn’t get the other pieces finished, and need to get all my September stuff posted up.

Great work on the alter, the extra tones really bring it up another level

I think it looks great and you can’t have too many altars when doing some fantasy gaming! 🙂
